Novena to the Child Jesus of Prosperity

Background

The Magi who visited Baby Jesus offered him the gifts of frankincense, myrrh, and gold – symbols of riches in those times. They had spent a lot for their journey, bringing with them servants, camels and security personnel. They could afford these gifts and such an expensive journey because they were prosperous.

The Magi were the first devotees to the Child Jesus of Prosperity. By offering expensive gifts, they underscored that material things would only have meaning if they are returned to the Creator. They knew they were not owners of what they had but were only custodians.

Though they were successful in their material pursuits, the Magi likewise understood that the search for God is the most important business of all. Their hard work to obtain their wealth did not blind them to the primacy of God.

God wants us to develop this earth and use its resources to make the world a better place to live in. Poverty in the midst of abundance means that some do not heed the call to share their resources. Christian prosperity means to recognize one’s social responsibility, to share to the needy, no to monopolize riches while others have nothing to eat. Such awareness could only come if in our material pursuits we understand that the search for God should be our most important undertaking.

To be devoted to the Child Jesus of Prosperity means making a promise to Jesus that in all things we seek his glory, and as we work hard, we place in his hands our business and other material undertakings.

Daily Prayer

(This daily prayer is to be recited before the specific prayer of each day.)

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, we place in your hands our material undertakings. You multiplied the five loaves and two fish, and you were able to feed fifteen thousand people. We believe that whatever you bless will be multiplied, and this abundance is always for your greater glory. We ask you to make us prosperous so that we can help the needy in our midst. We do not pursue material things for their sake because we know that without your presence, riches will only lead us to sin and greater selfishness. We invoke your presence so that, as we begin this undertaking, you may watch over us. Please, Lord, if you see us worthy custodians of your riches on earth, multiply the products of our sweat and creativity that we may become the instruments of your glory. Amen.

Day One

Daily Prayer

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, you were visited by the Magi during your stay in Bethlehem. They offered you expensive gifts which your mother kept and treasured. You were happy when poor shepherds visited you, but you were likewise joyous when these prosperous and intelligent men entered the stable where you were born. Though you loved poverty by being poor yourself, you appreciated the presence of these men who developed the world which you had created. They had much to share because they had produced more. We thank you, dear Child Jesus, for making prosperity a sign of your blessing and presence in our life. We come here today and we wish to lay before you our petitions (mention here the petitions). Bless us as blessed those Magi. Amen.

Day Two

Daily Prayer

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, the angels came down to serenade you at the night of your birth. They were singing glory to God in heaven and peace among men. Your gift to us is your peace. Look with pity, then on our world so torn by conflicts and wars. There is no peace because many are in want while those who have much are not willing to share. Teach us, O holy Child Jesus, that it is our obligation to be your instrument of peace in our planet, and we can only do so if we are willing to share something from teh sweat of our brow to alleviate the sufferings of the needy. We come here and make a solemn promise that we will share your blessings to others. Amen.

Day Three

Daily Prayer

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, Herod massacred the children of Bethlehem when his guards did not find you. They were the first martyrs. You do not want that children should suffer more, and you were fond of blessing children. We encounter many abandoned children who beg in the streets for their survival because their parents could not provide for them. We then put in your hands the care of parents that they may always be mindful of the needs of their children, that more parents may become responsible and not have children whom they would just abandon on the streets. On our part, O Holy Child, we promise that if you grant blessings to us, we will do our best to alleviate the sufferings of children in our society. Amen.

Day Four

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, you fled to Egypt when the angel warned Joseph that Herod wanted to kill you. You became a victim of man’s wickedness and evil. You did not spare yourself of this travail of walking a big distance just to escape with your life. You experienced how it was to be a refugee, a drama repeated in many parts of the world and in our country where violence and war exist. Your flight to Egypt, O Holy Child, makes us aware of the evil of sin that lurks in our hearts. We still have many “Herods” in our person whose specialty is to make others suffer. We empty them from our hearts so that you can make your dwelling place in us, so that the evil present in us may be emptied, so that we may not fall into the temptations of power and violence. We promise to be your most peaceful disciples and to propagate your peace among us. Amen.

Day Five

Daily Prayer

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, your mother offered you in the temple of Jerusalem where two old persons – Anna and Simeon – welcomed you. These two people had been waiting there for years, inspired by the Holy Spirit that before they die, they would see the Messiah. We remember also the old people in our midst, especially those who cannot anymore go to churches because of infirmities and poverty. We know that the only happiness of old persons is to be always in contact with you. We promise on our part that if you grant us your blessings and the prosperity that we seek, we will also contribute to the better welfare of the old people in our midst. We will do our share that they, too, may sing you songs like what Anna and Simeon did. Amen.

Day Six

Daily Prayer

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, you were lost in the temple for three days. Your worried parents looked for you everywhere only to discover that you were there in the temple, conversing with the learned people of the temple with whom you discussed the Bible. They were amazed at your intelligence. You shone in your discussion because you were able to tell them about your Father and his love for humanity. Teach us, O Holy Child, to share this knowledge to people around us, that our Father in heaven cares for each one of us. Inspire us to use our intelligence for your greater glory and not for seeking vainly our personal glory. Amen.

Day Eight

Daily Prayer

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, you grew in wisdom and in age. How many of us grow only in age but never in wisdom because we do not learn from our mistakes and live on remembering always our failures. Teach us, O Holy Child, to remain creative and proactive, inventing new things and strategies, building on our mistakes, sharpening our success, and being leaders in our field of expertise. May our families be the source of our inspiration and joy as we progress materially. May we look forward to achieving our goals because you want us to develop this world and make this a happy place for all. Amen.

Day Nine

Daily Prayer

O Child Jesus of Prosperity, you left your mother after thirty years of living an anonymous life in Nazareth. You loved to be unknown because of your humility. You loved your humble dwelling place, knowing that the bloodied palaces of Herod could not equal your love-filled home in Nazareth. Teach us, O Holy Child, how to remain humble in our success, to be simple in our lifestyle, to remain anonymous. Make us recognize always that you are the author of our success and without you, we cannot do anything. May we always be conscious that we will leave behind all our material riches and that all the glory of the world passes away. May we always look for your greater glory and the honor of your kingdom, which we can only possess through a humble and contrite heart. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving to the Child Jesus of Prosperity

Most divine Child Jesus of Prosperity, you knowingly took on our humanity with the cooperation of the most perfect creation and most holy Virgin Mary. You exalted humanity above the nature of angels at the instant of your incarnation.

Even in your childhood you knowing gave us the example of obedience. You who are God, obeyed your divine Father through the law of nature and the authority or your human mother, Mary, and human foster father, Joseph. We know that our real success comes when we obey you.

Even in your childhood, you knowingly gave us the example of family unity in a world created for the same unity of our humanity. We praise you for only through values learned in our homes can we embark on our material pursuits without losing your presence in us.

What incomparable and spontaneous love was shown in your divinity: to all appearances a baby boy wrapped in cloth; in reality, the Savior and supreme King of humanity! We return your love with our adoration, gratitude, and praise. We love, honor, and thank you. Child Jesus, the author of our spiritual, physical, and material well-being, our life, our good health, our glory! Amen.

Prayer against storms, lightning, earthquake

Jesus Christ, King of Glory, has come in peace. God became man. Christ suffered. Christ was crucified. Christ died. Christ rose from the dead. Christ ascended into heaven. Christ conquers. Christ reigns. Christ orders. May Christ protect us from all storms, lightning and earthquake. Christ went through their midst in peace. And the Word was made flesh. Christ is with us with Mary. Flee you enemy spirits because the Lion of the Generation of Judah, the Root David, has won.

Holy God, Holy Mighty God, Holy Immortal God, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen. (3x)
Jesus, King of Mercy, I trust in you! Amen.
