This devotion which is very pleasing to God, in order to be helpful and ease the great pains of the holy souls, may be made at any time and on any occasion with contrition and penance which are most pleasing to God.
I. Pray the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin (everyday)
II. Act of Contrition (everyday)
III. Prayer (everyday)
Act of Contrition
Most powerful and merciful Lord Jesus, lover of souls, most admirable in Thy saints; listen to the sighs and pleas of the souls in Purgatory who are desirous of Thy mercy and to the prayers of those who are making this novena for them, so that they may obtain Thy mercy and deign to rescue them from that prison of their great suffering. We beseech Thee to relieve first those who are suffering there through our fault, our close relatives, the abandoned, and those who are about to be released from Purgatory. We beseech Thee also, to free above all, those who injured us most and deliver from their sins those who are in the bondage of mortal sin and bring them to a sincere repentance of their sins, and become worthy of heaven. Amen.
Prayer for Each Day
First Day
Pray three Hail Holy Queens to the Blessed Virgin, and say the prayer for this day.
Prayer
My Lord, receive our supplications, prayers, mortifications and sighs in suffrage for the blessed souls for whom we make this novena; and we pray that by that motherly love bestowed on Thee by the Blessed Virgin, Thou mayest grant that they may rise and be happy in the realm of the living; bestow upon us Thy grace by those sorrows endured by Thy most Holy Mother, when she followed Thee on the Street of Sorrow up to Mt. Calvary, and grant what we ask of Thee in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
(Here ask Christ Crucified what you desire to obtain in this novena for self. Then say the following prayer to be said everyday of the novena.)
Final Prayer
O Lord God, Who left us the marks of Thy Passion on the Holy Sheet, in which Thy Sacred Body was wrapped when it was taken down from the Cross by Joseph, grant us, Lord, that by Thy death and burial, we may be brought to the glory of the Resurrection, where Thou liveth and reigneth with the Father and the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.
Second Day
Pray five Our Fathers and Hail Marys in honor of the five Wounds of Jesus and the great sorrows of Mary and say the following prayer for this day.
Prayer
Most merciful Lord, we beseech Thee, by that pain with which Thy Holy Mother saw Thee suffer and agonize on the Sacred Tree of the Cross, that the holy souls be freed from those pains in Purgatory; especially those souls for whom we are praying in this novena, applying the indulgences granted by the Supreme Pontiffs for their relief to all Religious, Fraternities and Congregations. Bring those who are submerged in their sins to a true knowledge of their guilt and grant what we ask of Thee in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Third Day
Pray three Our Fathers, Hail Marys and Glorys in honor of Saint Joseph and then say the following prayer for this day.
Prayer
Almighty God and Lord, to whom nobody asks without hope of receiving, by the intercession of that glorious patriarch Saint Joseph, and by the patronage of Thy beloved Mother, particularly by that sorrow She experienced when She saw Thee expire on the Cross, enable the suffering souls in Purgatory to be able to leave that place. Deign to return to Thy grace those who are without it because of sin, and grant us what we as of Thee in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Fourth Day
Pray four Our Fathers and Hail Marys and Glorys in honor of St. Joachim and St. Anne and then say the following prayer for this day.
O Great God, through Whose mercy the saints rest in glory, we beg Thee to set free those blessed souls for whom we are specially praying, through the intercession of St. Joachim and St. Anne. Hear us, Lord, by that bitter pain of Thy afflicted Mother when She heard those outrageous blasphemies and offensive words with which Thy enemies were insulting Thy Divine Innocence, we beg Thee, Lord, to have mercy on those who follow the path of perdition by making them return to Thy grace; and please grant us what we ask in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Fifth Day
Pray four Our Fathers and Hail Marys in honor of St. Michael, the Archangel, and then say the following prayer for this day.
Prayer
Sovereign Lord, in Whom it is proper to be merciful, through the intercession of the Archangel St. Michael and by the sorrows of Thy Blessed Mother suffered when that soldier cruelly pierced Thy side with a lance, have pity on those souls for whom we are offering this novena and bring them to Thy eternal rest. Have mercy on those who are in the state of mortal sin and grant us what we ask of Thee in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Sixth Day
Pray five Our Fathers and Hail Marys and Glorys in reverence of the glorious St. Lawrence, special advocate of the souls and then say the following prayer for this day.
Prayer
Sweetest Jesus, incline Thine ears to our petitions for Thy mercy on the blessed souls in Purgatory, especially on those for whom we are making this novena, through the torments suffered by the glorious St. Lawrence in the fire of his martyrdom. We are also begging Thy mercy for the blessed souls in Purgatory by the pains suffered by Thy loving Mother when she saw Thee being taken down from the Cross and when She received in Her Sacred Hands the Crown and Nails bathed in Thy Precious Blood. Have mercy on those who are not in Thy grace by taking them out of that unhappy state and grant us what we ask of Thee in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Seventh Day
Pray nine Our Fathers and Hails Marys in honor of the nine choirs of Angels, and then say the following prayer for this day.
Merciful Lord, through the intercession of the Angels, especially of those who are the guardians of those afflicted souls for whom we make this novena; and by the sorrow of Thy Blessed Mother when, after having kissed and adored Thy Crown and Nails, She received Thee in Her virginal and maternal arms and gazed on Thy mangled and lacerated Body, we humbly beseech Thee to set them free and bring them to the happiness of Heaven. Lead those who are in mortal sin to a true knowledge of their guilt and grant us the grace we ask of Thee in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Eighth Day
Pray five Our Fathers and Hail Marys in honor of the Seraphic Father St. Francis and St. Nicholas of Tolentino, special patrons of the blessed souls, and then say the following prayer for this day.
Prayer
My sweet and beloved Jesus, through the intercession of Thy beloved seraphim, St. Francis, and of the glorious and charitable St. Nicholas of Tolentino, we beg of Thee to shower the immense treasures of Thy clemency on those blessed souls whose torments so touched the charity of these two Servants of Thine. But we beg this grace especially through that bleeding Heart of Thy Blessed Mother when She wrapped and clothed Thy Sacred Body for burial and accompanied it to the Sepulchre. Reduce those who are in sin to a true repentance of them and grant us what we ask in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Ninth Day
Pray five times the Apostles Creed in honor of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and then say the following prayer for this day.
Prayer
Creator and Redeemer of all mankind, through the infinite merits of Thy Life, Passion, and Death, we beg of Thee to bestow on all souls, particularly those for whom we are making this novena, the pardon and indulgences they have always desired. Through the intercession and merits of Thy afflicted Mother, especially by that sorrow of sorrows with which She left Thee buried in the tomb and returned home without the light of Her eyes and the life of Her heart, which is Thou, our Jesus, have mercy on the blessed souls so that they may enjoy Thee eternally in Heaven. Turn Thine eyes of mercy, too, on those who are in the miserable state of slavery of the devil, so that they may be restored to Thy grace, and grant us what we ask of Thee in this novena for Thy greater honor and glory. Amen.
Decade of the Passion (everyday)
Lord, open our lips and inflame our hearts and cleanse them of useless and evil thoughts. Enlighten our minds, that we may seriously meditate on Thy sufferings and death and the pains endured by Thy most glorious Mother; and deign to hear and receive us before Thy great Majesty, Thou who livest and reignest forever. Amen.
(On the beads of the Rosary for the Our Father, say the following.)
My most merciful Jesus, look down with eyes of pity on the faithful souls for whom Thou suffered and died on the Cross.
(On the beads for the Hail Mary say the following.)
My Jesus, through Thy bloody sweat in the Garden, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through the blow Thou received on Thy Sacred Face, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through the cruel scourging Thou endured, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through the crown of thorns that pierced Thy Head, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through Thy carrying of the Cross on the path of bitterness, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through Thy Face covered with blood which Thou allowed to be imprinted on the veil of Veronica, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through Thy bloody garments which were cruelly removed from Thy wounded Body, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through Thy Holy Body nailed on the Cross, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through Thy Hands and Feet pierced with cruel nails, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
My Jesus, through Thy Sacred Side pierced with a lance and from which flowed blood and water, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory.
Offering: (an excerpt from a prayer of St. Augustine)
Most sweet Jesus, who in Thy desire to redeem the world, deigned to be born, circumcised, mocked by the Jews, to fall into the hands of Thy enemies through the treacherous kiss of Judas, to be bound and brought to the place of sacrifice like a meek Lamb, brought before Caiphas, Pilate and Herod, spat on, accused and condemned with false witnesses, to be slapped and have Thy Sacred Body covered with wounds from the cruel scourging, to be crowned with thorns, Thy Face covered with a purple cloth in mockery, stripped of Thy garments, nailed and elevated on the Cross between two thieves as if Thou wert one of them, offered gall and vinegar to drink, and to be pierced in Thy Side with a lance, deliver, O Lord, the souls in purgatory from their great suffering through thy most bitter Passion; bring them to Thy Glory and deliver us from the pains of hell, through the merits of Thy Holy Passion and Death on the Cross, so that we may be worthy to enter the Kingdom where Thou brought the good thief, who was crucified with Thee, who liveth and reigneth, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

That Thou wouldst be pleased to grant them all the pardon and remission of all their sins,
That Thou wouldst be pleased to fulfil all their desires,
That Thou wouldst be pleased to receive them into the company of the blessed,
King of awful Majesty,
Son of God,
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world, Grant unto them rest.
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world, Grant unto them rest.
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world, Grant unto them rest everlasting.

From the gates of hell,
Deliver their souls, O Lord,
O Lord, hear our prayer.
And let our cry come unto Thee.
Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of their sins; that by pious supplications, they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired. Grant this, O God, Who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen.
O Eternal God, Who besides the general precept of charity, hast commanded a particular respect to parents, kindred and benefactors; grant we beseech Thee, that as they were the instrument by which Thy Providence bestowed on us our birth, education, and innumerable other blessings, so our prayers may be the means to obtain for them a speedy release from their excessive sufferings, and free admittance to Thine infinite joys, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
Let us pray:
O God, Whose property is ever to have mercy and to spare, we humbly beseech Thee in behalf of Thy servant/s, N.-, whom Thou hast (this day) called out of this world, that Thou wouldst not deliver (him/her/them) into the hands of the enemy, nor forget (him/her/them) forever, but bid the holy angels, lead (him/her/them) into Paradise, (his/her/their) true country, that for as much as in Thee (he/she/they) put their hope and trust, (he/she/they) may not endure the pains of hell, but may come to the possession of eternal joys, through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who with Thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.
Be merciful, we beseech Thee, O Lord, to the soul/s of Thy servant/s, N.-, for whom we offer to Thee the sacrifice of praise, humbly beseeching Thy Majesty that by those holy and propitiatory offerings, (he/she/they) may be found worthy to win everlasting rest, through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, Who with Thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.
Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, that the soul/s of Thy servant/s, N.-, which has/have (this day) departed out of this world, may be cleansed by this sacrifice, and delivered from sins, and may receive forgiveness and everlasting rest, through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who with Thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.
Absolve, O Lord, the soul/s of Thy servant/s, from every bond of sin, so that by Thy aid (he/she/they) may deserve to escape the judgment of wrath, and come to the enjoyment of beatitude in eternal light.
Eternal rest grant unto (him/her/them), O Lord.
And let Your perpetual light shine upon (him/her/ them).
From the gates of hell,
Deliver (his/her/their) soul/s, O Lord.
May (he/she/they) rest in peace.
Amen.
O Lord, hear our prayer.
And let our cry come unto Thee.
The Lord be with you.
And with Thy Soirit.
Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the soul/s of Thy servant/s, N.-, the remission of all (his/her/their) sins, that through pious supplications (he/she/they) may obtain the pardon (he/she/they) has/have always desired Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

Twelve-year Devotion for the Souls in Purgatory by St. Bridget
The following prayers were given in a private revelation by Our Lord Jesus Christ to St. Bridget of Sweden. They are to be prayed for 12 years. Our Lord promised the following graces to all who will have this devotion:
1. The soul who will pray these prayers will suffer no purgatory.
2. The soul who will pray these prayers will be accepted among the Martyrs as though he had spilled his blood for the Christian Faith.
3. The soul who prays them can choose three other souls whom Jesus will then keep in a state of grace that is sufficient for them to become holy.
4. No one among the four successive generations of the souls who prays these prayers will be lost.
5. The soul who prays these prayers will be made conscious of his death one month in advance.
When the person who has committed himself to pray these prayers dies before the 12 years are over, the Lord will accept the prayers as having been prayed in their entirety. If a few days of prayers are missed due to a valid reason, they can be made up for later.
This devotion was pronounced good, and was recommended by both the “Sacro Colegio de propaganda fide,” as well as by Pope Clement XII. Pope Innocent X, in turn, confirmed the revelations of the Lord to St. Bridget.
Prayer Offerings in Honor of the Precious Blood of Jesus
O JESUS, we will pray the Lord’s Prayer
Seven times in union with all the love
With which You sanctified
This prayer in Your heart.
Take the prayers from our lips
Into Your Divine Heart.
Improve and complete our prayers
So that they bring as much honor and joy
To the Blessed Trinity
As you glorified the Trinity.
May these prayers bring glory to You
Because of Your painful Wounds,
And the Precious Blood
That You poured forth for us.
1. The Circumcision of Jesus.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer You the first wounds,
The first pains, and the first Bloodshed
As atonement for all the sins of youth
Committed by us and by all humanity,
And as protection of our relatives from mortal sins.
2. The Agony in the Garden.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer you
The terrifying sufferings of Jesus’ Heart
On the Mount of Olives
And every drop of His Blood
That He sweated
As atonement for the sins of the heart
Committed by us and by all humanity.
As protection against committing again such sins,
And for the spread of
The Diving and brotherly love
Among all.
3. The Flagellation of Jesus.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer you the numerous wounds
And the gruesome pains
That Jesus suffered,
As well as the Precious Blood
That He shed during the flagellation
As atonement for the sins of the flesh
Committed by us and by all humanity,
As protection against
Committing again such sins,
And for the preservation of
The virtue of innocence
Among our relatives.
4. The Crowning with Thorns.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer You the wounds and pains
That Jesus suffered,
As well as the Precious Blood
That flowed from
The Holy Head of Jesus
During the crowning with thorns,
As atonement for the sins of the spirit
Committed by us and by all humanity,
As protection
Against committing again such sins,
And for the spread of
Christ’s kingdom on earth.
5. The Carrying of the Cross.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer you the sufferings of Jesus
On the way of the Cross—
Especially the Holy Wounds
He suffered on His shoulders,
And the Precious Blood
That came from these wounds—
As atonement for every grumbling
Against Your Holy Will,
As atonement for sins of the tongue
Committed by us and by all humanity,
As protection against
Committing again these sins,
And for the spread of
True love for the Cross.
6. The Crucifixion of Jesus.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer You Your Son nailed
And hanging on the Cross,
His wounds on His hands and feet,
And the three streams of
His Precious Blood that poured forth
From these wounds for us,
His extreme tortures
Of the body and soul,
His precious death
And its unbloody remembrance
In all the Holy Masses,
As atonement for all the offenses
Committed against
the vows and rules of
Religious Life and the Priesthood;
As reparation for our personal sins
And the sins of the world;
As supplication
For the sick and the dying,
For the priests and the laity,
For the Holy Father’s intentions
Towards the restoration
Of Christian families,
For the strengthening of the Faith,
For our country, and
For unity among all nations
In Christ and in His Church,
And for the people of the Diaspora.
7. The Piercing of the Side of Jesus.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Accept as our worth offering
The Precious Blood and Water
That flowed from the wounds
Of the Divine Heart of Jesus
For the needs of the Holy Church,
And for the atonement
Of all the sins of humankind
Be gracious and merciful toward us.
May the Blood of Christ,
The last precious content
Of His Holy Heart,
Wash us and others
Of all the guilt of our sins.
May the Water
From the side of Christ
Wash us clean
Of all the punishments of our sins,
And may it extinguish
The flames of Purgatory
For us and
For all the Poor Holy Souls.
Amen.
Prayer in Honor of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Mother
Whoever thinks of the Passion of Jesus Christ must also think of His Blessed Mother Mary. The Mother of God gave St. Bridget the private revelation that the following graces will be gained by anyone who prays seven (7) “Hail Mary’s” daily while meditating upon her tears and sorrows, and by anyone who spreads this devotion to others:
1. There will be peace in the person’s family.
2. The person will experience enlightenment into God’s mysteries.
3. As long as their wishes are within God’s Will for the salvation of souls, the person’s wishes in prayer will be fulfilled.
4. The person will have eternal joy in Jesus and Mary.
First Sorrow of Mary—
The Old Simeon Reveals
That Jesus will be
A Sign of Contradiction, and
That Mary’s heart will be pierced.
Hail Mary...
Second Sorrow of Mary—
Mary and Joseph
Took Jesus to safety in Egypt.
Hail Mary...
Third Sorrow of Mary—
Mary and Joseph
Looked for the 12-year-old Jesus who
Stayed behind in the Temple.
Hail Mary...
Fourth Sorrow of Mary—
Mary meets Jesus
On the Way of the Cross.
Hail Mary...
Fifth Sorrow of Mary—
Mary at Calvary
Watches Jesus’ Crucifixion,
Death, lancing, and removal
From the Cross.
Hail Mary.
Sixth Sorrow of Mary—
Mary embraces in her arms
The lifeless body of Jesus.
Hail Mary...
Seventh Sorrow of Mary—
Mary endures loneliness
At the burial of Jesus.
Hail Mary...
Prayer for the Most Neglected Souls
JESUS, for the sake of the agony
That you endured
During your fear of death
At the Garden of Gethsemane,
At the Scourging,
At the Crowning with thorns,
On the Way to Calvary,
At Your Crucifixion and death,
Have mercy on the souls in Purgatory,
Especially on those souls
Who are completely forgotten.
Deliver them from their bitter pains,
Call them finally to yourself
And embrace them
In Your arms in Heaven.
Amen.
Prayer to the Three Archangels
To Saint Michael:
St. Michael the Archangel,
Defend us in these days of battle,
Be our safeguard
Against the wickedness
And snares of the devil,
May God rebuke him
We humbly pray,
And you, O prince of the Heavenly Host,
By the power of God,
Cast into hell Satan
And all the evil spirits
Who roam throughout the world
Seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
To Saint Gabriel:
Angel of Humanity,
Trusted Messenger of God,
Open our ears
For the quiet warnings and calls
Of the most Loving Heart of Jesus.
Always be in front of our eyes,
We beg you,
That we may understand
The Word of God correctly,
And that we may follow,
Obey, and fulfil that
Which God wants of us.
Assist us in staying awake
So that when the Lord
Comes to get us
He may not find us asleep.
To Saint Raphael:
Arrow of Love
And Doctor of God’s Love,
Wound our hearts with burning love,
We ask you,
And do not let the wound heal
So that we may stay
On the path of God’s Love everyday,
And so that we overcome everything
With love that comes from God.

Committed by us and by all humanity,
As protection
Against committing again such sins,
And for the spread of
Christ’s kingdom on earth.
5. The Carrying of the Cross.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer you the sufferings of Jesus
On the way of the Cross—
Especially the Holy Wounds
He suffered on His shoulders,
And the Precious Blood
That came from these wounds—
As atonement for every grumbling
Against Your Holy Will,
As atonement for sins of the tongue
Committed by us and by all humanity,
As protection against
Committing again these sins,
And for the spread of
True love for the Cross.
6. The Crucifixion of Jesus.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Through Mary’s unblemished hands
And through the Divine Heart of Jesus,
We offer You Your Son nailed
And hanging on the Cross,
His wounds on His hands and feet,
And the three streams of
His Precious Blood that poured forth
From these wounds for us,
His extreme tortures
Of the body and soul,
His precious death
And its unbloody remembrance
In all the Holy Masses,
As atonement for all the offenses
Committed against
the vows and rules of
Religious Life and the Priesthood;
As reparation for our personal sins
And the sins of the world;
As supplication
For the sick and the dying,
For the priests and the laity,
For the Holy Father’s intentions
Towards the restoration
Of Christian families,
For the strengthening of the Faith,
For our country, and
For unity among all nations
In Christ and in His Church,
And for the people of the Diaspora.
7. The Piercing of the Side of Jesus.
Our Father and Hail Mary.
Eternal Father,
Accept as our worth offering
The Precious Blood and Water
That flowed from the wounds
Of the Divine Heart of Jesus
For the needs of the Holy Church,
And for the atonement
Of all the sins of humankind
Be gracious and merciful toward us.
May the Blood of Christ,
The last precious content
Of His Holy Heart,
Wash us and others
Of all the guilt of our sins.
May the Water
From the side of Christ
Wash us clean
Of all the punishments of our sins,
And may it extinguish
The flames of Purgatory
For us and
For all the Poor Holy Souls.
Amen.
Prayer in Honor of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Mother
Whoever thinks of the Passion of Jesus Christ must also think of His Blessed Mother Mary. The Mother of God gave St. Bridget the private revelation that the following graces will be gained by anyone who prays seven (7) “Hail Mary’s” daily while meditating upon her tears and sorrows, and by anyone who spreads this devotion to others:
1. There will be peace in the person’s family.
2. The person will experience enlightenment into God’s mysteries.
3. As long as their wishes are within God’s Will for the salvation of souls, the person’s wishes in prayer will be fulfilled.
4. The person will have eternal joy in Jesus and Mary.
First Sorrow of Mary—
The Old Simeon Reveals
That Jesus will be
A Sign of Contradiction, and
That Mary’s heart will be pierced.
Hail Mary...
Second Sorrow of Mary—
Mary and Joseph
Took Jesus to safety in Egypt.
Hail Mary...
Third Sorrow of Mary—
Mary and Joseph
Looked for the 12-year-old Jesus who
Stayed behind in the Temple.
Hail Mary...
Fourth Sorrow of Mary—
Mary meets Jesus
On the Way of the Cross.
Hail Mary...
Fifth Sorrow of Mary—
Mary at Calvary
Watches Jesus’ Crucifixion,
Death, lancing, and removal
From the Cross.
Hail Mary.
Sixth Sorrow of Mary—
Mary embraces in her arms
The lifeless body of Jesus.
Hail Mary...
Seventh Sorrow of Mary—
Mary endures loneliness
At the burial of Jesus.
Hail Mary...
Prayer for the Most Neglected Souls
JESUS, for the sake of the agony
That you endured
During your fear of death
At the Garden of Gethsemane,
At the Scourging,
At the Crowning with thorns,
On the Way to Calvary,
At Your Crucifixion and death,
Have mercy on the souls in Purgatory,
Especially on those souls
Who are completely forgotten.
Deliver them from their bitter pains,
Call them finally to yourself
And embrace them
In Your arms in Heaven.
Amen.
Prayer to the Three Archangels
To Saint Michael:
St. Michael the Archangel,
Defend us in these days of battle,
Be our safeguard
Against the wickedness
And snares of the devil,
May God rebuke him
We humbly pray,
And you, O prince of the Heavenly Host,
By the power of God,
Cast into hell Satan
And all the evil spirits
Who roam throughout the world
Seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
To Saint Gabriel:
Angel of Humanity,
Trusted Messenger of God,
Open our ears
For the quiet warnings and calls
Of the most Loving Heart of Jesus.
Always be in front of our eyes,
We beg you,
That we may understand
The Word of God correctly,
And that we may follow,
Obey, and fulfil that
Which God wants of us.
Assist us in staying awake
So that when the Lord
Comes to get us
He may not find us asleep.
To Saint Raphael:
Arrow of Love
And Doctor of God’s Love,
Wound our hearts with burning love,
We ask you,
And do not let the wound heal
So that we may stay
On the path of God’s Love everyday,
And so that we overcome everything
With love that comes from God.
Novena to the Divine Mercy
Jesus asked that this Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena of Chaplets to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday.
Say one chaplet each day following the novena intention. In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her:
“On each day of the novena you will bring to My Heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy... On each day you will beg the Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls. By this novena I will grant every possible grace to souls.” (Diary 1209, 796)
This novena, however, can be recited privately by anybody, anytime of the year.
First Day
Today Bring Me All Mankind, Especially All Sinners.
Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature it is to have compassion on us and to forgive us, do not look upon our sins, but upon our trust which we place in Your infinite goodness. Receive us all into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, and never let us escape from it. We beg this of You by Your love which unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind and especially upon poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion show us your mercy, that we may praise the omnipotence of Your mercy forever and ever. Amen.
Second Day
Today Bring Me the Souls of Priests and Religious.
Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in us, that we may perform worthy works of mercy, and that all who see us may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company [of chosen souls] in Your vineyard—upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them with the strength of Your blessing.
For the love of the Heart of Your Son in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation, and with one voice sing praise to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Amen.
Third Day
Today Bring Me all Devout and Faithful Souls.
Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasury of Your mercy, You impart Your graces in the great abundance to each and all. Receive us into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart and never let us escape from it. We beg this of You by that most wondrous love for the heavenly Father with which Your Heart burns so fiercely.
Eternal Father, turn Your Merciful gaze upon faithful souls, as upon the inheritance of Your Son. For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, grant them Your blessing and surround them with Your constant protection. Thus may they never fail in love or lose the treasure of the holy faith, but rather, with all the hosts of Angels and Saints, may they glorify Your boundless mercy for endless ages. Amen.
Fourth Day
Today Bring Me the Pagans and Those Who Do Not Know Me.
Most Compassionate Jesus, You are the Light of the whole world. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of pagans who as yet do not know You. Let the rays of Your grace enlighten them that they, too, together with us, may extol Your wonderful mercy; and do not let them escape from the abode which is Your Most Compassionate Heart.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of pagans and of those who as yet do not know You, but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. These souls do not know what great happiness it is to love You. Grant that they, too, may extol the generosity of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.
Fifth Day
Today Bring to Me the Souls of Heretics and Schismatics.
Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself. You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of heretics and schismatics. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of heretics, and schismatics, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love or Your Own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.
Sixth Day
Today Bring Me The Meek and Humble Souls and the Souls of Little Children.
Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said, “Learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart.” Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart all meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. These souls send all heaven into ecstasy, and they are the Heavenly Father’s favourites. They are a sweet-smelling bouquet before the throne of God; God himself takes delight in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent abode in Your Most Compassionate Heart, O Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of love and mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon meek and humble souls, and upon the souls of little children, who are enfolded in the abode of the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to Your Son. Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Your very throne. Father of mercy and of all goodness, We beg You by the love You bear for these souls and by the delight You take in them, bless the whole world, that all souls together may sing out the praises of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.
Seventh Day
Today Bring Me the Souls Who Especially Venerate and Glorify My Mercy.
Most Merciful Jesus, Whose Heart is Love Itself, receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who particularly extol and venerate the greatness of Your Mercy. These souls are mighty with the very power of God Himself. In the midst of all afflictions and adversities, they go forward, confident in Your Mercy. These souls are united to Jesus and carry all mankind on their shoulders. These souls will not be judged severely, but Your mercy will embrace them as they depart from this life.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls who glorify and venerate Your greatest attribute, that of Your fathomless mercy, and who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls are a living Gospel; their hands are full of deeds of mercy and their spirit, overflowing with joy, sings a canticle of mercy to You, O Most High! We beg You, O God, show them Your mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in You. Let there be accomplished in them the promise of Jesus, who said to them, “I Myself will defend as My own glory, during their lifetime, and especially at the hour of death, those souls who will venerate My fathomless mercy.” Amen.
Eighth Day
Today Bring Me The Souls Who Are in the Prison of Purgatory.
Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so we bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of purifying fire, that in that place, too, the power of Your mercy may be praised.
Eternal Father, turn Your most merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. We beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded, manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way than through the wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.
Ninth Day
Today Bring Me The Souls Who Have Become Lukewarm.
Most Compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion Itself. We bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love let these tepid souls, who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your mercy and draw them into the very ardour of Your love; and bestow upon them the gift of holy lover, for nothing is beyond Your power.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, we beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour agony on the Cross, let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy. Amen.
Chaplet of the Divine Mercy
1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, one (1) Our Father, one (1) Hail Mary and the Apostles’ Creed.
2. Then on the Our Father beads say the following: “Eternal Father, we offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.”
3. On the 10 Hail Mary beads say the following: “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.” (Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all five decades.)
4. Conclude with (three times): “Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

O incomprehensible and limitless Mercy Divine,
To extol and adore You worthily who can?
Supreme attribute of Almighty God,
You are the sweet hope of sinful man.
Into one hymn yourselves unite, stars,
Earth, and sea, and the Divine Mercy
Incomprehensible in concert praise,
Charmingly. (II, 295-297)
Desires of a Soul
O Jesus, our Master, we unite our desires to the desires that You had on the Cross: we desire to fulfil Your holy will; we desire the conversion of souls; we desire that Your mercy be adored; we desire that the triumph of the Church be hastened; we desire the Feast of Mercy to be celebrated all over the world; we desire sanctity for priests; we desire that in all religious houses there reign a spirit of great zeal for the glory of God and for the salvation of souls; we desire that souls do not offend God but persevere in good; we desire that the blessing of God descend upon all. Amen. (V, 150-151).
A Prayer for Divine Mercy
O Greatly Merciful God, Infinite Goodness, today all mankind calls out from the abyss of its misery to Your mercy—to Your compassion, O God; and it is with its mighty voice of misery that it cries out. Gracious God, do not reject the prayer of this earth’s exiles! O Lord, Goodness beyond our understanding, Who are acquainted with our misery through and through, and know that by our own power we cannot ascend to You, we implore You: Anticipate us with your grace and keep on increasing Your mercy in us, that we may faithfully do Your holy will all through our lives and at death’s hour. Let the omnipotence of Your mercy shield us from the darts of our salvation’s enemies; that we may with confidence, as Your children, await Your final coming—that day known to You alone. And we expect to obtain everything promised us by Jesus, in spite of all our wretchedness. For Jesus is our Hope: through His merciful Heart as through an open gate, we pass through to heaven. (V, 143)
Prayer of Thanksgiving
O Jesus, Eternal God, We thank You for Your countless graces and blessings. Let every beat of our hearts be a new hymn of thanksgiving to You, O God. Let every drop of our blood circulate for You, O Lord. Our souls are one hymn in adoration of Your mercy. We love You, O God, for Yourself alone. Amen.
To Obtain Love for God
Most sweet Jesus, set on fire our love for You and transform us into Yourself. Divinize us that our deed may be pleasing to You. May this be accomplished by the power of the Holy Communion which we receive (daily). Oh, how greatly we desire to be wholly transformed into You, O Lord! Amen. (IV, 39)
To Obtain an Understanding of God
Jesus, give us intellect, a great intellect, for this only, that we may understand You better; because the better we get to know You, the more ardently will we love You. Jesus, we ask You for a powerful intellect, that we may understand divine and lofty matters. Jesus, give us keen intellect with which we will get to know Your Divine Essence and Your inner, Triune life. Amen. (V, 73)
Prayer for the Grace to be Merciful Towards Others
O Most Holy Trinity! As many times as we breathe, as many times as our hearts beat, as many times as our blood throb through our bodies, so many thousand times do we want to glorify Your mercy.
We want to be completely transformed into Your mercy and to be Your living reflection, O Lord. May the greatest of all your divine attributes—that of Your unfathomable mercy, pass through our hearts and souls to our neighbours.
Help us, O Lord, that our eyes may be merciful, so that we may never suspect of judge from appearances, but look for what is beautiful in our neighbour’s souls and come to their rescue.
Help us, that our ears may be merciful, that our ears may be merciful, that we may give heed to our neighbour’s needs and not be indifferent to their pains and moanings.
Help us, O Lord, that our tongues may be merciful, so that we should never speak negatively of our neighbours, but have a word of comfort and forgiveness for all.
Help us, O Lord, that our hands may be merciful and filled with good deeds, so that we may do only good to our neighbours and take upon ourselves the more difficult and toilsome tasks.
Help us, that our feet may be merciful, so that we may hurry to assist our neighbours, overcoming our own fatigue and weariness. Our true rest is in the service of our neighbours.
Help us, O Lord, that our hearts may be merciful so that we ourselves may feel all the sufferings of our neighbours. We will refuse our hearts to no one. We will be sincere even with those whom we know will abuse our kindness. And we will lock ourselves up in the most merciful Heart of Jesus. We will bear our own sufferings in silence. May Your mercy, O Lord, rest upon us.
You Yourself command us to exercise the three degrees of mercy. The first: the act of mercy of whatever kind. The second, the word of mercy—if we cannot carry out a work of mercy, we will assist by our words. The third: prayer—if we cannot show mercy by deeds or words, we can always do so by prayer. Our prayer reaches out even there where we cannot reach out physically.
O our Jesus, transform us into Yourself, for You can do all things. (I, 78)
(This prayer gives us a true measure of our mercy, a mirror in which we can observe ourselves as merciful Christs. We can well make it our morning invocation as well as our evening examination of conscience.)
For Sinners
Jesus said to St. Faustina: “You always console Me when you pray for sinners. The prayer most pleasing to me is the prayer for their conversion. Know, my daughter, that this prayer is always heard and answered.” (V. 35-36)
O Jesus, eternal Truth, our Life, we call upon You and we beg Your mercy for poor sinners. O sweetest Heart of our Lord, full of pity and unfathomable mercy, we plead with You for poor sinners. O Most Sacred Heart, Fount of Mercy from which gush forth rays of inconceivable graces upon the entire human race, we beg of You light for poor sinners. O Jesus, be mindful or Your own Bitter Passion and do not permit the loss of souls redeemed at so dear a price of Your most precious Blood. O Jesus, when we consider the great price of Your Blood, we rejoice at its immensity, for one drop alone would have been enough for the salvation of all sinners. Although sin is an abyss of wickedness and ingratitude, the price paid for us can never be equalled. Therefore, let every soul trust in the Passion of the Lord and place its hope in His Mercy. God will not deny His mercy to anyone. Heaven and earth may change, but God’s mercy will never be exhausted. Oh, what immense joy burn in our hearts when we contemplate Your incomprehensible goodness, O Jesus! We desire to bring all sinners to Your feet that they may glorify Your mercy throughout endless ages. Amen. (I, 30)

Amen. (I, 30)
