Prayer for Healing through the Veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS

Lord Jesus, You said of the Holy Shroud: "It is really Me."

Prayer for Healing through the Veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Leader: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful.
Response: And enkindle in them the Fire of Your Love.
Leader: Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created.
Response: And Thou shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray: O God, who by the Light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His Consolation, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

I firmly wish that my face reflecting the intimate pains of my soul, the suffering and love of my heart, be more honoured! Whoever gazes upon me already consoles me. – Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sister Pierina

O most Holy and Blessed Trinity, through the intercession of Holy Mary whose soul was pierced through by a sword of sorrow at the sight of the passion of her Divine Son, we ask your help in making this prayer to the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS, united with all his sorrows, love, and total abandonment.

We mplore all the angels and saints to intercede for us as we pray this prayer to the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS for the glory of the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

All those who are attracted by my love, and venerating my countenance, shall receive, by virtue of my humanity, a brilliant and vivid impression of my divinity. This splendour shall enlighten the depths of their souls, so that in eternal glory the celestial court shall marvel at the marked likeness of their features with my divine countenance. – Our Lord Jesus Christ to St. Gertrude

Repentance Prayer
Loving Father, You are the Source of all Goodness and Love and You never refuse forgiveness to those who come to You with repentant hearts. Mercifully listen to our prayer for our prayer intentions for spiritual and physical healing, through the veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS. Look with kindness upon them and forgive them for all their sins and failures. Give them the grace to acknowledge them before You. Help them look into their lives and see the many ways they displeased You in their relationship with You, with their loved ones and friends through the sin of pride, the sin of anger, lust or weakness of the flesh, envy, greed, gluttony and sloth and for the negative consequences that resulted from them. Forgive them for their inability to be faithful to Your Commandments and bless them with humility to repent with sincere and contrite hearts. Give them the strength to fight future temptations to sin and to avoid being exposed to occasions for sin. Give them the patience and perseverance to make amends in their lives and be transformed according to Your Most Holy Will. All these we pray the name of Jesus, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Holy Angels and saints. Amen.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. (Three times)
My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of Your Most Sorrowful Passion.
My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of Your Holy Wounds. Amen.

Prayer to Take Authority
In the Holy Name of Jesus, we take authority and bind all powers and forces in the air, in the ground, in the water, in the underground, in the netherworld, in nature and in fire. You are the Lord of the entire universe and we give You glory for Your creation. In Your Name, we bind all the demonic forces that have come against us and our families and we seal all of us in the protection of Your Precious Blood that was shed for us on the Cross. Mary, our Mother, we seek your protection and intercession with the Sacred Heart of Jesus for us and our families and surround us with your mantle of love to discourage the enemy. St. Michael and our guardian angels, come and defend us and our families in the battle against all the evil ones that roam the earth. In the Name of Jesus, we bind and command all powers and forces of evil to depart right now away from us, our homes and our lands. And we thank You, Lord Jesus, for You are a Faithful and Compassionate God. Amen.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your Love for me.
O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come. Amen.

Deliverance Prayer
In the Holy Name of Jesus of Nazareth, through His Tremendous Power as God and through His Most Powerful and Salvific name, we rebuke, repudiate, bind and cast out each and every spirit of Satan, demons, and other evil and/or unclean spirits, including spirits of illnesses and diseases. We command them, in the HOLY NAME OF JESUS, to go from our prayer intentions for healing through the veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS, (name of place). We turn them over to Jesus, our Lord and our Savior for Him to take hold of them and dispose of them according to His Will and we bind and command them, in the Holy Name of Jesus, and through the veneration of the Holy Shroud, (name of place). We pray that the Holy Spirit would enter into the empty spaces left by the spirits of Satan and of illnesses, diseases and vices and fill them with the spirit of love, joy and peace, and for the Holy Spirit to remain there forever and not to allow the spirits of Satan and of illnesses and diseases to come back again. We pray this in the Mighty Name of Jesus, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary and all the Holy Angels and saints. Amen.

Prayer to Bind Away
In the Holy Name of Jesus, we take authority over each and every spirit that has come against our prayer intentions for healing through the veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS and we bind them and command them . Amen.

Cleansing Prayer
Heavenly Father, in union with Your Divine Son our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Power of the Holy Spirit, we pray that the cleansing power of the Precious Blood of Your Son come upon us right now. Purify us and wash us clean with the Blood of Jesus from the top of our head down to the very soles of our feet. Let His Most Precious Blood penetrate the very marrow of our bones to cleanse us from any entanglement from whatever spirit we have come in contact with during the course of our intercession. Anoint us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and refresh our bodies, souls and spirits. And may the sign of Your Holy Cross drive away all evil spirits from us. In the name of the Father (✟) and of the Son (✟) and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Healing Occult Involvement
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You for healing and forgiveness our prayer intentions for healing through the veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS for, knowingly and unknowingly, opening their spirits to occult influences. We place them now under the Cross of Jesus Christ and claim that nothing shall interfere with the Lord’s work being accomplished in their lives. Cover them with Your Most Precious Blood. Let Your Light surround them and put on them Your Armor of Protection to resist the devil’s tactics. Let truth be buckled around their waists and let integrity be their breastplates. Let the shield of faith put out the burning arrows of the evil one. Let Your Promise of Salvation be their helmet and Your Words from the Holy Spirit be their sword. Lord, please show these persons how evil influences has taken a hold of their lives. Let them renounce those ways and place them under Your Lordship. In the name of Jesus, deliver them from the seductive lure of evil in all its forms and free them from the dominion of sin over their lives. Protect them from Satan, all his works and empty promises. Forgive them, their friends, relatives and ancestors for calling upon powers that set themselves against Jesus Christ. Let them renounce all openness to occult, all false worship and all benefits from magical arts. Let them renounce witchcraft, vampire spirit, Satan-worship, spirit of the glass, fortune-telling, horoscope, and all other forms of occult games and practices. In the name of Jesus, we break any curses that may be coming against them or their families and stop the transmission of those curses through their ancestries. In the name of Jesus, we bind you spirits of pride, anger, lust, envy, greed, gluttony, sloth, vices, insolence, wickedness, and treachery. We bind you away from these persons now, in Jesus’ name. Lord Jesus, fill them with Your Faith to replace their doubts and fears, fill them with Your Health to replace illnesses, fill them with Your Strength to replace weaknesses, fill them with Your Purity to replace lust, fill them with Your Humility to replace pride, fill them with Your Charity to replace anger, fill them with Your Perseverance to replace sloth, fill them with Your Temperance to replace greed, fill them with Your Generosity to replace gluttony, fill them with Your Goodwill to replace envy, fill them with Your Obedience to replace insolence, fill them with Your Love to replace treachery, fill them with Your Grace to replace vices, and fill them with Christian Perfection to replace wickedness. Lord Jesus, graciously fill them with Your Most Holy Spirit. Loving Father, let the cleansing, healing waters of their baptism flow back through the generations to purify them and their family lines of contamination. We thank you, Lord Jesus, for You are a faithful and compassionate God, and we claim Your Victory on their behalf. Amen.

Healing of Body, Mind and Spirit
Almighty and Eternal Father, we know that there is no sickness that You cannot heal. You know all things, You can do all things and You love our prayer intentions for healing through the veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS. With faith in Your Promise that whatever we ask in prayer, You will grant us if it will be good for our souls, We now, come before You to ask for healing of body, mind, emotions and spirit for our prayer intentions for spiritual and physical healing through the veneration of the HOLY SHROUD. Touch them now where they are hurting most. Only You know what kind of healing they need most right now. Let the grace of Your Divine Love flow and spread to the different parts of their bodies reaching the inner recesses of their beings. Comfort them in their pain and anguish. Correct any malfunctioning of their body organs. Melt with Your Healing Love any abnormal growths. Arrest all further spreading of all sick cells and replace them with healthy cells. Root out all unresolved hurts, resentments, fears and feelings of despair and frustration. Heal all painful memories and repercussions of traumatic experiences. Grant them the grace to accept their trials and sufferings as a share in Your own sufferings and offer this for the salvation of their souls and those of their families and loved ones. Forgive them for all their sins and fill them with Your Love, Peace, Joy, Kindness, and Generosity. Let them realize the deeper meaning of their sicknesses and trials and lead them closer to You as they find comfort in Your Loving Heart, in union with the Sacred Heart of Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Let them find Joy and Peace amidst their suffering, and with eyes of faith, see the blessing and victory that await them. And then, dear Father, after they have been healed, may they be witnesses of Your Healing Power, may they bring glory, honor and praise to You. This we pray in the Holy and Mighty Name of Your Son Our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns, now and forever, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary and Your Holy Angels, saints and martyrs. Amen.

Holy God, Holy Powerful God, Holy Immortal God, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen. (Three times) Jesus, King of Mercy, we trust in You.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.

Spiritual Healing
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving our prayer intentions for healing through the veneration of the HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS, and for calling them to come closer to You. Thank you for the many times that You have never given up on them even if they have often strayed away from You, for the many times that You have been faithful to Your Promises despite all their unfaithfulness, sins, failures and all their weaknesses. We come before You now with humble hearts asking for spiritual healing for these persons. Thank you for Your concern for their spiritual lives. Thank you for Your Healing Mercy and Your Forgiveness for all offenses in their lives and the many ways they have displeased You in thoughts, words and actions. Heal them Lord of their times of prayerlessness caused by laziness, or by giving higher priority to their other activities or interests. Heal them for the times that they depended entirely on their own efforts or on others and disregarded You completely; for those times that they were blinded by self-centeredness and many other worldly concerns and turned their backs on You, those times that they easily gave in to temptations despite being aware of their consequences. Search them, O God, and help them see the areas in their spiritual lives that need Your Healing Love and Mercy. Create in them clean hearts and let Your Spirit dwell in their hearts. Give them the grace to put You as first priority in their lives at all times and to turn away from sin or occasions and influences that lead to sin. Teach them to pray and plant in them the desire to pray as often as they can. Lift them up when their prayers seem dry or empty and they feel as though their prayers are not being heard. Strengthen them with patience and perseverance when trials and obstacles make them feel like giving up. Guide them in the right path that leads only to You. Keep them in the company of people who will lead them to holiness. And, dearest Lord, draw them near to You always and let their spirits be filled with Your Power, Love, Peace, Joy, and Healing Presence. All these we pray in Jesus’ Holy and Mighty Name through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary and all the Holy Angels, saints and martyrs.

Jesus, Mary, we love you, save souls, save the consecrated. Amen.

Blessing of the Sick

Through this blessing of holy water, may the Lord forgive you whatever sins you may have committed, take and receive this HOLY CROSS, AND IMAGE OF THE HOLY FACE ON THE HOLY SHROUD OF JESUS, as a sign of your salvation. Amen.

Veneration of the Holy Wounds

Lord Jesus, You said: “Venerate my Holy Wounds.”

PRAYER TO THE SCOURGING WOUNDS OF CHRIST

“Pilate wanted to please the crowd, so he set Barabbas free for them. Then he had Jesus whipped and handed him over to be crucified.” (Mark 15:15)

“Many enemies surrounded me like bulls; they are all around me, like fierce bulls from the land of Bashan. They open their mouths like lions, roaring and tearing at me. My strength is gone, gone like water spilled on the ground. All my bones are out of joint... You have left me for dead in the dust.” (Psalms 22:12-15)

“They cut deep wounds in my back and made it like a plowed field.” (Psalms 129:3)

Lord Jesus, we venerate the Holy Wounds on Your Body caused by the cruel scourging that you endured – those wounds that tore at Your Flesh and wounded Your bones, leaving You bloodied, weak, and almost dead, long before You reached Calvary. We adore Your painful and bloody wounds that purchased for us eternal salvation. Eternal Father, for the sake of the cruel scourging wounds of Your Divine Son, have mercy on us, forgive our sins, and grant salvation to us, to our families, and to the whole world. Amen.

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory Be.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY WOUNDS ON THE HEAD OF CHRIST

“They made a crown out of thorny branches and placed it on His head. They spat on Him, and took the stick and hit him over the head.” (Matthew 27:29-30)

“Many people were shocked when they saw Him; He was so disfigured that He hardly looked human. But now many nations will marvel at him, and kings will be speechless in amazement. They will see and understand something they had never known.” (Isaiah 52:14)

“I am no longer a human being; I am a worm, despised and scorned by everyone.” (Psalms 22:6)

Lord Jesus, we adore and venerate the Holy Wounds on Your Head, caused by the crown of thorns which the cruel soldiers pressed against Your Forehead and around Your Head, to hurt and mock You, calling You a false king, and the blows that You received on Your Face and Head – those painful and cruel wounds from which flowed blood that left imprints of Your Sacred Face on the veil of Veronica, and on the Holy Shroud, reminding us of the cruelty and profound humiliation that You endured in the hands of Your enemies. Almighty Father, for the sake of the precious wounds on the Head of Christ that He endured for our sake, have mercy on us, sinners, and grant conversion to the whole world. Amen.

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory Be.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY WOUNDS ON THE KNEES OF CHRIST

“So they took charge of Jesus. He went out, carrying His cross, and came to “The Place of the Skull,” as it is called.” (John 19:17-18)

“An evil gang is around me; like a pack of dogs they close in on me.” (Psalms 22:16)

“All who see me make fun of me; they stick out their tongues and shake their heads.” (Psalms 22:7)

Lord Jesus, we venerate the Holy Wounds on Your Knees caused by Your stumbling many times, and falling to the ground three times, on the stony streets of Calvary, as Your enemies closed in on You – weak from the cruel scourging that You endured, dismayed by the mockeries and insults of the people, and burdened by the exceedingly heavy cross which You, nevertheless, lovingly carried for our sake – the Cross that we made You carry because of our sins. When You could no longer carry Your Cross, the soldiers seized Simon the Cyrene and forced him to carry it behind You. (Mark 15:21) Eternal Father, for the sake of the Holy Wounds on the Knees of Your Divine Son, have mercy on us, on our priests and religious, and on the holy souls in purgatory, forgive our sins, and lead us all to life everlasting with the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – God, world without end. Amen.

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory Be.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY WOUNDS ON THE HANDS AND FEET OF CHRIST

“They tear at my hands and feet. All my bones can be seen.” (Psalms 22:16-17)

“He was put to death for the sins of our people.” (Isaiah 53:8)

Jesus said: “Look at my hands and feet, and see that it is Myself.” (Luke 24:39)

Lord Jesus, we venerate and adore the Holy Wounds on Your Hands and Feet – those wounds through which the cruel nails were pierced and hammered to hang you on the Cross, piercing through your veins and between the bones of Your Hands and Feet, from which profusely poured forth Your Precious Blood – those wounds that remind us of how You lived, and died, for us, showing us that the way to the Father is through loving sacrifice.

Eternal Father, as we recall Your promise to save us from the consequences of our sin, we cannot help but be amazed at Your handiwork. You said: “I will do great things such as have never been done anywhere on earth among any of the nations. All the people will see what great things I, the Lord, can do, because I am going to do an awesome thing for you.” (Exodus 34:10). And You also said: “I will never forget you. See upon the palms of my hands I have written your name.” (Isaiah 49:15-16)

We believe that You have wonderfully fulfilled Your promise. You have indeed done a great thing for us. You have written our names on the palms of Your Hand, with the Precious Blood of Your Divine Son. The Wounds on His Hands and Feet bear witness to it. Almighty Father, forgive us for the many times that we do not appreciate fully the infinite value of the great Gift that you have given us. For the sake of the Holy Wounds on the Hands and Feet of Your only-begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and on the whole world, and grant conversion to all sinners. Amen.

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory Be.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY WOUND ON THE SIDE OF CHRIST

Jesus said to Thomas: “Put your finger here, and look at my hands; then reach out your hand and put it in my side. Stop your doubting, and believe!”

”But when they came to Jesus, they saw that He was already dead, so they did not break His legs. One of the soldiers, however, plunged his spear into Jesus’ side, and at once blood and water poured out. (John 19:33-34)
“Do not break any of the animals’ bones.” (Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12) “They will look at the one whom they stabbed to death.” (Zechariah 12:10)

“My heart is like melted wax.” (Psalms 22:14)

Lord Jesus, only when we contemplate your Passion and Death on the Holy Cross do we realize who You really are, the true meaning of what You did for us, and how much the Father loves us. Not only did You, Loving God, die an ignominious death hanging from the Cross like a slave, You spent all of it to save us from eternal damnation, down to the very last drop of Your Precious Blood, that You shed after You died on the Holy Cross, with a Wound that pierced through all the way to Your Loving Heart. Eternal Father, cast a merciful look upon us sinners, for the sake of the Most Holy and Precious Wound on the Side of Your Divine Son. Through the merits of His Most Sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us, and grant conversion to pagans all over the world. Amen.

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory Be.

VENERATION OF THE HOLY FACE ON THE HOLY SHROUD

Lord Jesus, we venerate Your Most Holy Face miraculously imprinted on the Holy Shroud, in which Your Sacred Body was wrapped after it was taken down from the Cross, and laid in the his own tomb by one of Your disciples, Joseph of Arimathea. We adore Your Holy Face bloodied from Your Most Sorrowful Passion on Death on the Cross – Your Eyes blood-filled and sunken from the torture and suffering that You endured, Your Face wounded, bleeding, disfigured and swollen from the blows that You received, Your Hair stiffened by blood, and Your Skin matted by blood which flowed from the mortal wounds on Your Head, caused by the crown of thorns that You wore, and the blows and beatings that You received on Your Sacred Head.

Yet, despite the Immeasurable pain that You endured for our sake, Your Holy Face still manages to shine with Your gentleness and Divinity – manifesting no trace of bitterness whatsoever from Your physical suffering – and still radiates with Your infinite Love for us, sinners, showing us that You are, indeed, a Loving God who willingly took on the punishment that we, not You, rightfully deserve, in order to free us from the consequences of our sin – to lighten our burdens; to teach us how to love You, who are all-worthy and deserving of all our love, and to learn to forgive one another, in order that we may live in love and peace with our brothers and sisters.

Teach us how to repent for our sins, and mend our ways, in order that we may become worthy of Your heavenly kingdom. Give us the gift of faith that, together with Your angels and saints in heaven, we may sing Your praises for all eternity. Amen.

Eternal Father, thank you for the wonderful gift of Your Divine Son. For the sake of His Most Sorrowful Passion and Death on the Cross, have mercy on us, and on the whole world. Amen.

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory Be.

“The voice of the Lord makes the lightning flash. His voice makes the desert shake.” (Psalms 29:7-8)

Exaltation of the Holy Cross Novena

Daily Prayer

Jesus, your love for your Father brought you to the cross. We are gathered before this magnificent symbol of our faith to recall the events of Calvary and to thank you for your great sacrifice.

Your cross is our life. Your death brought us salvation. As we ponder on the meaning of your death, we ask you to send us the Holy Spirit that we may be able to accept the truth that without sacrifice, we can never be your disciples.

Give us the courage to believe that our major challenge in life is the acceptance of suffering and death. You have glorified our suffering and death with your suffering, dying, and rising from the dead. Inspire us to believe that without the cross, there is no glory. Amen.

Day One

Daily Prayer

Jesus, you carried your cross through the streets of Jerusalem, with your head bloodied by the crown of thorns. Your enemies laughed at you, and your friends abandoned you. You carried the cross, the sins of humanity, on your shoulders and in the silence of your sufferings, we are reborn.

Jesus, you taught us that we should also carry others’ sins. We see this in mothers who stand helpless at the abuses of their children, or their husbands. They suffer in silence, yet their sufferings save and redeem their loved ones.

Teach us, O Lord, to accept situations that we cannot change and carry them as you carried your cross through the streets of Jerusalem. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Two

Daily Prayer

Jesus, you fell three times while carrying your cross. You were exhausted by the tortures and the lack of sleep, and your executioners had to ask the help of Simon the Cyrene to help you carry the cross. You were nearly dead when you reached Calvary.

Simon of Cyrene was the luckiest person on earth because he helped you carry your cross. Make us remember, dear Jesus, in our moments of suffering and trials, that we, too, help carry your cross, and that it is an honor to suffer and die with you.

Give us hearts that easily respond to the sufferings around us, believing that when we help the needy and the abandoned, we are actually serving you. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Three

Daily Prayer

Jesus, you manifested your power through your miracles, but in carrying the cross, you showed that God preferred to be powerless than to be powerful. You did this to show your oneness with the powerless of the earth. You took the side of the helpless because you want to shame the arrogant and the powerful.

May we, Lord, in our relationship with our brothers and sisters, avoid domineering attitudes, and instead, be of service to them. May the glory of your cross help us understand that hearts can never be conquered through imposition or arrogance but through disinterested service.

Make us servants to one another and may self-giving characterize our relationship. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Four

Daily Prayer

Jesus, when you were hung on the cross, you were in control of the situation unfolding before you. You forgave those who were laughing at you and asked your beloved disciple to take care of your mother.

You welcomed the good thief into paradise. You continued to be compassionate and serve others fully. You did not allow pain to control you. Give us the special grace not to be desperate in our moments of sufferings. Enable us to bear pain with courage and dignity, not allowing ourselves to be the center of attraction, but able even in the midst of pain, to be of help and service to others. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Five

Daily Prayer

Jesus, you hung on the cross of three hours and your executioners insulted you, saying that you cannot save yourself and others. You could have used your powers but preferred to keep silent and bear with much patience the insults of your enemies.

Teach us the virtue of patience as we bear the insults and harsh words of people who don’t like us. Inspire us to respond with silence and give us the grace that we may be able to pray for them. In this way, through our patience, we help you redeem our troubled world. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Six

Daily Prayer

Jesus, your mother and other women surrounded you while you were dying on the cross. Your mother nonetheless accepted this agony, believing that this was part of the divine plan, that God had the power to draw something good from this terrible experience of failure.

Your mother’s faith in you and what you can do inspire us. We face similar situations of failure and suffering, and we pray that you are with us, so that we can face with courage our trials and hardships, believing through you, we can draw something good from these experiences. Strengthen our faith as we live through the difficulties and uncertainties of this life. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Seven

Daily Prayer

Jesus, you refused to drink the vinegar given to you by the soldiers. We know that these soldiers wanted to alleviate your sufferings because this drink lessens the pain, acting as anesthesia.

You refused to drink vinegar because you wanted to feel the pain throughout the time you hung on the cross. You did not want to lessen your sacrifice. Help us, O Lord, to bear the pains of everyday life. Let us savor our sufferings so that we may be able to live your cross. Inspire us not to run away from pain and sufferings, but to accept and experience them as proof of our love for you. Help us live our pains. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Eight

Daily Prayer

Jesus, you broke the circle of death through the cross. You are the first born from the dead because you are the only one who came back alive after dying. You cross reveals that suffering borne in your name would lead us to life.

Teach us then to accept our infirmities and sufferings, uniting them to your passion and death on the cross. Give us the grace to believe that you are able to draw something good from evil situations. You are a powerful God because even in worst situations, you can draw something good. May your cross remind us of your great powers. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Day Nine

Daily Prayer

Jesus, your cross manifested your decision to always do the Father’s will. You Father asked you to reveal to us the face of God, a mission which you succeeded to do.

That God you revealed shines so resplendently on the cross. It is a God who loves because he is pure love. In the cross, you gave everything – your life and you have nothing more to give us. By your giving, we have become rich.

May our veneration of your cross enable us to live the challenge of love, that we, too, may learn to trust, to understand, and to forgive, and that we may remove from our hearts, hatred, mistrust, and resentment and be like God who is one hundred percent good.

May your cross lead us to life and communion with our brothers and sisters. Amen.

Through your Holy Cross, save us. (3x) Glory Be. (3x)

Prayer for Conversion

(The suggested special prayer intention is indicated after the prayer theme. – JBT)

PRAYER FOR CONVERSION

(The suggested special prayer intention is indicated after the prayer theme. – JBT)

Introductory Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, you directed your Holy Apostles to go and make disciples of all nations. “But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) Inspired by your powerful yet loving words, we pray that You give us wisdom and strength to carry out Your command. We long to see you loved, and the glory and praise of Your Name proclaimed throughout the world. We pray for the conversion of souls in all nations, especially those who do not yet know You. Almighty Father, grant our petitions, for the sake of the love that you bear for Your only-begotten Son, and by the bitter passion that He endured for the salvation of souls, by the power of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day One – Peace/Korea

Jesus, you said, “Peace be with you. As God has sent me, so I send you.” (John 20:21) Inspired by your powerful words, we pray that you give us peace of mind, body and spirit – a peace that the world cannot give. We live in a world beset by conflict and strife and we long for peace with You and with others. We realize that we need to foster true humility within ourselves, and a self-sacrificing love that will value the well-being of others as our own, in order to attain lasting peace.

Eternal Father, cast a merciful glance upon our troubled world burdened by conflicts because of lack of humility and love for others. Send forth your Spirit to fill our hearts with understanding and compassion that seek to serve others more than ourselves. We ask this through the meekness and humility shown by your Son during his trial when Pontius Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” and He replied, “So you say, I am.” (Matthew 27:11) We also ask this by the sacrifice and love shown by His sorrowful and immaculate Mother Mary and foster-father Joseph when they brought the child Jesus in haste to Egypt to save Him from the hands of his enemies. Amen.

Final Prayer

Jesus, you taught Saint Faustina that: “The prayer most pleasing to (You) is the prayer for conversion of souls and that this prayer is always heard and answered.” Inspired by Your call, and with full confidence in the strength of your agonizing Passion and Death on the Cross, and the merits of the sacrifices borne by Your Sorrowful and Immaculate Mother, we pray for the conversion of nations. We also pray for our particular intention/s (here mention your intention).

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory be.

Day Two – Love/Japan

(Recite the Introductory Prayer)

Jesus, you said, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34) Indeed, God the Father loves us as he loves Christ, seeing his image in us... This image is painted within us over and over by the Holy Spirit. (Pope John Paul II, Rome, 1999) We pray that we may see the same image of God in others and learn how to love and show concern for others as the Holy Trinity – God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – has wonderfully manifested and continues to show Its supreme love for us.

Almighty Father, cast a merciful glance upon our grieving world saddened by the lack of love and value for others, especially little children, above all in those nations that have not yet come to know of the love and human dignity that You bestowed upon us – through the incarnation of Our Lord Jesus Christ, made man through the intercession of Blessed Mary, ever Virgin – and through His Most Holy Passion and Death on the Cross.

Inspired by the Holy Sacrifice of Your Divine Son on the Cross, by His Words as He manifested His love for little children and commanded us to do the same, saying: “Suffer not the little children to come unto Me, for theirs is the Kingdom of God,” (Matthew 19:13-14) by His divine wisdom and understanding manifested when while still a child of twelve years of age, he lectured and discussed with the elders for three days in Your temple, and by the paternal love shown by his Holy Mother, Mary, and by his foster-father, St. Joseph, in searching for Him whom they thought was lost, we pray for the conversion of nations that they may follow His example, and that of the Holy Family, in showing love and concern for others and respect for human dignity, especially for little children.

We pray this through the merits of the pains and torments endured by Your Divine Son in His most cruel scourging at the pillar and the piercing of His Side and Most Sacred Heart by a lance while He was hanging lifeless on the Cross, through which He shed the last drops of His Precious Blood (John 19:31-37), by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, by the merits of the sword of sorrow that pierced her Immaculate Heart at the Passion and Death of her Son. Amen.

(Recite the Final Prayer)

Day Three – Greatness/Africa

(Recite the Introductory Prayer)

Lord Jesus, you exhorted us to greatness through your holy apostle Peter who said: “Grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18) It is you who stirs in us the desire to do something great with our lives, to have the courage to follow an ideal... to commit ourselves humbly and patiently to improving ourselves and society, making the world more human and fraternal. (Pope John Paul II, Rome, 2000) Inspired by your call, we pray for the grace to rise above ourselves, our sins and weaknesses, to true greatness in Your sight. We also pray for this grace for our brothers and sisters, especially in developing countries. May they find in You true meaning, even as they struggle through their daily lives amidst issues of poverty.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful eyes towards us and our brothers and sisters in other developing countries. Forgive us our sins and give us the grace to rise above ourselves, our pettiness and selfishness, in order that we may be able to respond to your call to conversion, and greatness in our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray this through the merits of Your Divine Son and the greatness that he exemplified, when rising above his agony while hanging on the Cross, He prayed: “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing,” (Luke 23:34) and as He continued to thirst for the salvation of souls, crying out: “I thirst!”(John 19:28) Through His resurrection and ascension into heaven, we realize that the things of this world are merely passing, and that the challenges that we face are just meant to prepare us for true greatness: “You can depend on this: if we have died with Him, we shall also live with Him; if we hold out to the end, we shall also reign with Him.” (2 Timothy 2:11-12)

We also pray this through the merits of our Blessed Mother as she responded to Your call to greatness to become the Mother of the Saviour, and replied to Saint Gabriel, the Archangel: “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to Your Word.” (Luke 1:38) We also pray for generous souls to help our brothers and sisters in developing countries – to give them courage and hope, to inspire them, amidst their many challenges. All these we ask by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the intercession of our Sorrowful and Immaculate Mother. Amen.

(Recite the Final Prayer)

Day Four – Unity/Arab Nations

(Recite the Introductory Prayer)

Lord Jesus, You said: “I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in Me and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without Me.” (John 15:5) “Bear witness to Christ in today’s society. Become builders of the civilization of love and truth... This is the first step toward a new unity, a unity that transcends the political order yet enlightens it.” (Pope John Paul II, Denver, 1993) Inspired by your call to unity, we pray that we may be able overcome our biases and prejudices, and stop ourselves from burdening each other with heavy crosses, that we make through many forms discrimination – religious, racial, economic, and sexual, among others.

As You took on the yoke of the poor, may we always see You in others, and avoid making their crosses heavier, through our cruelty and oppression of others. Infuse us, instead, with Your spirit of compassion, that we may be always strive to look for ways and means of lessening the burdens of others. We also pray for our brothers and sisters in many nations, that they may come to learn of Your gospel of Truth – that God became Man, and that He died for us, to show us that the way to everlasting happiness with the Father is through a self-sacrificing love that transcends all personal, political and social boundaries. “For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, many as they are, form one body, so also it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 1:12)

Eternal Father, cast your merciful look upon us, and especially upon our brothers and sisters in nations where many forms of discrimination still abound, which burden people from attaining their fullest potential as Your children, heirs to Your glorious kingdom in heaven. We ask this through the merits of the heavy cross that your Divine Son patiently carried for us, in order to make our own burdens light: “So they took charge of Jesus. He went out carrying his cross, and came to the place of the skull. There they crucified him.” (John 19:17-18) We pray that we may always see Christ carrying His heavy cross in our brothers and sisters, suffering and burdened under biases and discrimination, and strive to help them lighten their loads.

We also ask this through the infinite merits of the death Your Divine Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, when He announced that His work of salvation is complete: “Then Jesus drank the wine and said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave over his spirit.” (John 19:30) We also ask this through the merits of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Blessed Mother. We pray that we may all come to see her sorrowful image in women all over the world, who are still suffering under the burden of heavy crosses, brought about by biases and discrimination against women. All these we ask through the power of Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

“Cast your burdens upon me, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11: 28-30)

Day Five – Holiness/Priests and Religious

Lord God, You said: “For I, the LORD, am your God; and you shall make and keep yourselves holy, because I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:44) “If you really wish to serve your brothers and sisters, let Christ reign in your hearts. Let Him strengthen you in virtue and fill you above all with His charity. Let him guide you along the path that leads to holiness. (Pope John Paul II, Compostela, 1989)

Inspired by call, we pray for Your mercy in order that we may be able to grow in holiness in Your sight – in order that we may be able to serve you more and more faithfully each day, and that we may inspire and lead others to You by the example of our own holiness. We pray for the strength to overcome our personal weaknesses, and the enemies of our salvation – the flesh, the world and evil spirits. We also pray for forgiveness for our sins, and the grace to lead a life of prayer, to strengthen our faith, and help us discern Your will in our lives, as well as in others, that we may always strive to act according to Your will, and lead others to true conversion. We pray for these gifts especially for our priests and religious – Your chosen ones – that they may bear much fruit. “It was not you who chose Me, it was I who chose you to go forth and bear fruit. Your fruit must endure so that all you ask the Father in my name He will give you.” We pray for obedience to Your will. We long to be counted among Your faithful ones: “Gather my faithful ones before me, those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” (Psalms 50:5)

We pray this through the merits of the death of Your Divine Son on the Cross. Obedient unto death, He humbly gave over His Spirit to the Father: “Father, into Your hands I commend My Spirit.” Lord Jesus, You taught us: “Greater love than this no one has, that one lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) Impart to us Your Grace that we may hunger and thirst for holiness, and follow your example. We also pray these through the merits of the sorrows endured by our Immaculate Mother over the Passion and Death of her Divine Son. These we ask through the power of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

“Blest are they who hunger and thirst for holiness, they shall have their fill.” (Matthew 5:6)

(Recite the Final Prayer)

Day Six – Faith/Holy Souls in Purgatory

(Recite the Introductory Prayer)

Lord Jesus, You said: “I am telling you the truth: he who believes in Me has eternal life. I am the Bread of Life.” (John 6:47-48) “My faith, like the faith of each one of you, is not just my doing, my attachment to the truth of Christ and the Church. It is essentially and primarily the work of the Holy Spirit, a gift of His grace. The Lord gives us His Spirit to help us say ‘I believe,’ and then He sends us out to bear witness to the truth.” (Pope John Paul II, Rome, 2000) Inspired by Your teaching, we pray for the grace of a steadfast faith – that we may be enlightened about the truths of our religion, live You in our hearts all the days of our lives, and that by persevering in faith, we may be found worthy of eternal life. “As for you beloved, build up yourselves upon your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” (Jude 2:20) We also pray for our departed brothers and sisters – the holy souls in purgatory –that You reward them according to the hope and trust that they have placed in You. May they soon meet You, our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with Father and the Holy Spirit, face to face, and enjoy eternal happiness with the Blessed Virgin, and all the holy angels and saints, in heaven.

Eternal Father, in Your great mercy, grant forgiveness to the poor holy souls in purgatory. Grant them the grace of full repentance, that they may be purified soon of their sins, and become worthy of heaven. We ask this through the eternal merits of the Death and Burial of Your Divine Son, our Lord Jesus Christ: “Joseph bought a linen sheet, took the body down, wrapped it in the sheet, and placed it in a tomb which had been dug out of solid rock. Then he rolled a large stone across the entrance to the tomb.” (Mark 15:46), and through the sorrow endured by our Immaculate Mother, Mary, at witnessing the Passion of her Divine Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and while standing beneath the Cross, our Lord Jesus Christ left her to the care of St. John, saying: “He is your son... She is your mother.” (John 19:26-27) These we ask through the power of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

“I am the Resurrection and the Life. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die; and those who live and believe in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)

(Recite the Final Prayer)

Day Seven – Compassion/India

(Recite the Introductory Prayer)

“Charity is patient, is kind; charity does not envy, is not pretentious, is not puffed up, is not ambitious, is not self-seeking, is not provoked; thinks no evil, does not rejoice over wickedness, but rejoices with the truth.” (1 Corinthians 13:8-9) “Concern for those most in need springs from a decision to love the poor in a special manner... In loving the poor, we imitate the attitude of the Lord, who during his earthly life devoted himself with special compassion to all those in spiritual and material need.” (Pope John Paul II, Rome 1999) Inspired by Your call, we pray for the grace to be compassionate to our suffering brothers and sisters, especially to those in nations most in need, and who cry out for our help. Lord Jesus, You said: “Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the Kingdom of God.” You, Yourself, chose to be born in poverty – in a manger, because there was no more room for You in Bethlehem – so that we may become rich, rich in spirit, and in virtue, in showing our compassion for others, in order that we too may become worthy of Your Kingdom in heaven. Help us to see You always in others, and grant us grace to be of help to them. May we learn to reciprocate the love that You have shown us through Your Divine Son, through our service to our brothers and sisters, especially to those who are in need.

Loving Father, cast a merciful look upon us, and grant us your grace, that we may serve you more and more faithfully, through service to our brothers and sisters in need, especially those in other developing countries. We pray this through the merits of the modest life led by Your Divine Son, manifested by His birth in a manger - a stable for farm animals – and his burial in a borrowed tomb. You always loved the poor, as You showed through Your Divine Son. Help us too become instruments in showing your infinite love and concern for others, so that they too may glorify Your mercy. We also pray this through the merits of the life of service to others led by our Blessed Mother, shown as she went in haste to her older cousin St. Elizabeth to assist her in her hour of need, although our Immaculate Mother was herself with Child, and was to be the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, and as out of concern for the newlyweds who had ran out of wine, she prayed her Divine Son to make to turn water into wine, which became His first public manifestation of His Divinity. These we ask through the power of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

(Recite the Final Prayer)

Day Eight – Prayer/United Kingdom

(Recite the Introductory Prayer)

“Pray without ceasing and give thanks to God in all circumstances.” (1 Thessalosians 5:17-18) “Dear brothers and sisters, our Christian communities must become genuine ‘schools’ of prayer, where the meeting with Christ is expressed not just in imploring help but also in thanksgiving, praise, adoration, contemplation, listening and ardent devotion.” (Pope John Paul II, Rome, 2001) Lord Jesus, when the disciples asked You to teach them how to pray, You taught them, and us, to call God: “Our Father.” Inspired by Your loving words, we ask for the grace to pray always in all circumstances in our lives – in our moments of sadness or indecision, as well as in our moments of rejoicing and jubilation. We know that as a loving Father, our Father in heaven, through the Holy Spirit, is always present with us, desiring to show us the way to communion with the Holy Trinity, even in this life.

Eternal Father, we know that You are genuinely concerned for our well-being – You want to show Your compassion when we are troubled, You want to rejoice with us in times of joy. Inspire us to love you more and more, as we feel Your Real Presence in our lives. Thank you for the countless times that You have never left us without Your assistance, especially in our times of trials and difficulties. Forgive us for the times when we lacked trust in Your Divine Providence. Thank you for the gift of Your Divine Son and the Holy Spirit. We also pray for our brothers and sisters especially in highly developed countries, that they may not forget to call on You, especially in times of material prosperity, for we believe that there is nothing on earth than can match Your goodness, and there is no greater good than to inherit Your Kingdom in Heaven for eternity. We ask this through the merits of the life of Your Divine Son spent to teach us about the glory that You have prepared in heaven for all of us, Your children, and through the merits of the humble life spent by our Immaculate Mother, in obedience to Your Will. These we ask by the power of the Holy Spirit, one God world without end. Amen.

(Recite the Final Prayer)

Day Nine – Purity of Heart/Indonesia

(Recite the Introductory Prayer)

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8) “Jesus teaches us to see the Father’s hand in the beauty of the lilies of the field, the birds of the air, the starry night, fields ripe for the harvest, the faces of the children and the needs of the poor and humble. If you look at the world with a pure heart, you too will see the face of God.” (Pope John Paul II, Denver, 1993) Lord Jesus, we long to see Your face, for it is only then that our restless search for Your goodness and beauty will come to an end. Therefore, teach us how to become pure in heart, in order that we may behold the glory of Your face in heaven. Purify our hearts of the seductive lure of material things of this world that weighs down our spirits, and deadens our souls. Teach us that all the things of this world, including our own physical bodies, are temporary, and meant only to serve our needs as we journey towards You, towards Your eternal kingdom in heaven. Teach us not to become too attached to material things, lest we forget that we are meant for You and for eternity. Through our prayers, show us that You are loving God, who is concerned about both our spiritual and material well-being, and who generously provides for both our spiritual and material needs; that You are King of Heaven, as well as of this earth, and that all that we need, we can ask from You through prayer, because we believe that all things are at Your disposal and command. You taught us: “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and all of these things shall be added unto you.” Teach us to be concerned, too, with the needs of others, especially our brothers in sisters in other developing countries. Make us channels of Your grace to them, so that together with us, they may also praise Your goodness and beauty for eternity.

Eternal Father, cast a merciful look upon us, and our brothers and sisters in other developing countries. Make us worthy channels of Your grace, that others may also learn to appreciate Your marvellous gift, which is Your Divine Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and grow in the same Faith that You have given us. And after our journey in love and brotherhood on earth, may we all, finally, come to behold Your glorious Face in heaven. We pray these through the merits of the life of preaching and miracles led by our Lord Jesus while on earth, teaching us about Your Kingdom in heaven, and inviting all of us, sinners, to inner conversion. We also pray these through the merits of the life of our Immaculate Mother, Mary – a life spent in whole-hearted service to You. These we ask by the power of the Holy Spirit, God, forevermore. Amen.

(Recite the Final Prayer)

PRAYER FOR THE DEFEAT OF EVIL SPIRITS

Almighty and Eternal God, in union with your Divine Son and by the power of the Holy Spirit, and through the intercession of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, and of all the angels and saints in heaven, we earnestly implore You to manifest Your power in the defeat of all evil and unclean spirits, that roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls, in order that we may be able to live in love and peace as we await Your final coming: “What we await are new heavens and the new earth where, according to His promise, the justice of God will reside. So beloved while waiting for this, make every effort to be found without stain or defilement and at peace in His sight.” (2 Peter 3:13-14) This we ask for the greater honour and glory of the Most Holy Trinity, and the salvation of souls, through the merits of the Most Sorrowful Passion of your Divine Son. Have mercy on us, and on the whole world. Amen.

(1) Our Father, (1) Hail Mary, (1) Glory be.

At the Feet of Christ in the Eucharist by St. Faustina

O Jesus, Divine Prisoner of Love, when I consider Your love and how You emptied Yourself for me, my senses deaden. You hide Your inconceivable majesty and lower Yourself to miserable me. O King of Glory, though You hide Your beauty, yet the eye of my soul rends the veil. I see the angelic choirs giving You honor without cease, and all the heavenly Powers praising You without cease, and without cease they are saying: Holy, Holy, Holy.

Oh, who will comprehend Your love and Your unfathomable mercy toward us! O Prisoner of Love, I lock up my poor heart in this tabernacle that it may adore You without cease night and day. I know of no obstacle in this adoration: and even though I be physically distant, my heart is always with You. Nothing can put a stop to my love for You. No obstacles exist fro me...

O Holy Trinity, One and Indivisible God, may You be blessed for this great gift and testament of mercy. Amen. (I,34)

I adore You, Lord and Creator, hidden in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I adore You for all the works of Your hands, that reveal to me so much wisdom, goodness and mercy, O Lord. You have spread so much beauty over the earth and it tells me about Your beauty, even though these beautiful things are but a faint reflection of You incomprehensible Beauty. And although You have hidden Yourself and concealed Your beauty, my eye enlightened by faith, reaches You and my soul recognizes its Creator, its Highest Good, and my heart is completely immersed in prayer of adoration.

My Lord and Creator, Your goodness encourages me to converse with You. Your mercy abolishes the charm which separates the Creator from the creature. To converse with You, O Lord is the delight of my heart, in You I find everything that my heart could desire. Here Your light illumines my mind, enabling it to know You more and more deeply. Here steams of grace flow down upon my heart. Here my soul draws eternal life. O my Lord and Creator, You alone, beyond all these gifts, give Your own self to me and unite Yourself intimately with your miserable creature.

O Christ, let my greatest delight be to see You love and Your praise and glory proclaimed, especially the honor of Your mercy. O Christ, let me glorify Your goodness and mercy to the last moment of my life, with every drop of my blood and every beat of my heart. Would that I be transformed into a hymn of adoration of You. When I find myself on my deathbed, may the last beat of my heart be a loving hymn glorifying Your unfathomable mercy.

Novena in Honor of the Most Holy Face of Jesus

I firmly wish that my face reflecting the intimate pains of my soul, the suffering and love of my heart, be more honoured! Whoever gazes upon me already consoles me. – Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sister Pierina

Daily Preparatory Prayer

O most Holy and Blessed Trinity, through the intercession of Holy Mary whose soul was pierced through by a sword of sorrow at the sight of the passion of her Divine Son, we ask your help in making a novena of reparation with Jesus, united with all his sorrows, love, and total abandonment.

We now implore all the angels and saints to intercede for us as we pray this holy novena to the Most Holy Face of Jesus and for the glory of the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen. (Start novena)

Gertrude

Our hearts are before you; open our ears; let us hasten after your voice. Hide not your Face from us, we beseech you, O Lord. Open our hearts so that you may enter in, Repair the ruined mansions that you may dwell therein.

Hear us, O heavenly Father, for the sake of your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, on God, now and forever. Amen. (St. Augustine)

We consecrate to you, our understanding, our heart, and our will, our whole being for eternity. May our understanding be always submissive to your heavenly inspirations and to the teachings of your holy Catholic Church, of which you are the infallible guide; may our heart be ever inflamed with love of God and neighbour; may our will be ever conformed to the divine will, and may our whole life be a faithful imitation of the life and virtues of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to whom with the Father and you be honor and glory forever. Prayer of Pope Pius IX

O Jesus! Cast upon us a look of mercy; turn your Face towards each of us as you did to Veronica; not that we may see it with our bodily eyes, for this we do not deserve, but turn it towards our hearts, so that, remembering you, we may ever draw from this fountain of strength the vigor necessary to sustain the combats of life. We may read there your gentleness and humility, and learn how to form our hearts in the practice of these two virtues which you desire to shine in your servants. Mary our Mother and St. Joseph, help us.

Through the merits of your precious blood and your Holy Face, O Jesus, grant us our petition, pardon and mercy.

Prayer in Honor of the Blessed Virgin

O Most Holy and afflicted Virgin, Queen of Martyrs! Who stood beneath the cross, witnessing the agony of your dying Son, look down with a mother’s tenderness and pity on us as we kneel before you to venerate your sorrows, and place our requests, with filial confidence, in the sanctuary of your wounded heart.

Present them on our behalf to Jesus, through the merits of his most sacred Passion and Death, together with your sufferings at the foot of the cross, and through the united efficacy of both, obtain the favour which we humbly ask.

To whom shall we go in our wants and miseries if not to you? O Mother of Mercy, who having so deeply drunk of the chalice of your Son, graciously alleviate the sufferings of those who still sigh in this land of exile. Amen.

Prayer to the Souls in Purgatory

My Jesus, by the sorrows you suffered in your agony in the garden, in your scourging and crowning with thorns, in the way to Calvary, in your crucifixion and death, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory, and especially on those that are most forsaken.

Lord Jesus! After contemplating your features, disfigured by grief, after meditating upon your passion with compunction and love, how can our hearts fail to be inflamed with a holy hatred of sin which even now outrages your Adorable Face!

Lord, suffer us not to be content with mere compassion, but give us grace so closely to follow you in this Calvary, so that we may have a share, small though it may be, in expiation of sin. Amen.

Mary, our Mother, intercede for us. St. Joseph, pray for us.

Through the merits of your precious blood and your Holy Face, O Jesus, grant us our petition, pardon and mercy.

Hail Mary, daughter of God the Father! Hail Mary, Mother of God the Son! Hail Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit! Hail Mary, Temple of the Most Holy Trinity! Hail Mary, our mistress, our wealth, our mystic rose, Queen of our hearts, our Mother, our life, our sweetness, and our dearest hope! We are all yours, and all we have is yours.

O Virgin blessed above all things, may your soul be in us to magnify the Lord; may your spirit be in us to rejoice in God. Place yourself, O faithful Virgin, as a seal upon our hearts, that in you and through you we may be found faithful to God.

Grant, most gracious Virgin, that we may be numbered among those whom you are pleased to love, to teach, and to guide, to favour and to protect as your children.

Grant that with the help of your love, we may despise all earthly consolation and cling to heavenly things, until through the Holy Spirit, your faithful spouse, and through you, his faithful spouse, Jesus Christ, your Son, be formed within us for the glory of the Father. Amen. (St. Grignon de Montfort)

Eighth Day

(Recite the Daily Preparatory Prayer)

O rescue me, God my helper, and my tongue shall ring out your goodness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise. (Psalm 51:16-17)

Most merciful Face of Jesus, who in this vale of tears was so moved by our misfortunes as to call yourself the healer of the sick, and the good Shepherd of the souls gone astray, allow not Satan to draw us away from you, but keep us always under your loving protection, together with all souls who endeavour to console you.

Mary, our Mother, intercede for us, St. Joseph, pray for us.

Through the merits of your precious blood and your Holy Face, O Jesus, grant us our petition, pardon and mercy.

Prayer to St. Peter

O glorious St. Peter, who in return for your lively and generous faith, your profound and sincere humility; and your burning love, was honoured by Jesus Christ with singular privileges, and in particular, with the leadership of the other apostles and the primacy of the whole Church, of which you were made the foundation stone, may you obtain for us the grace of a lively faith, that shall not fear to profess itself openly even to the shedding of blood.

Obtain for us likewise a sincere loyalty to our Holy Mother the Church. Grant that we may ever remain most closely and sincerely united to the Holy Father, the visible head of the Catholic Church. Grant, moreover, that we may follow, in all humility and meekness, the Church’s teaching and counsels and may we be obedient to all her precepts to enjoy a peace that is sure and undisturbed, and to attain one day in heaven to everlasting happiness. Amen.

O Bleeding Face, O Face Divine, may all adoration be yours. (3x)

Ninth Day

(Recite the Daily Preparatory Prayer)

For in sacrifice you take no delight, burnt offering from me you would refuse, my sacrifice a contrite spirit. A humbled, contrite heart you will not spurn. In your goodness, show favor to Zion; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Then you will be pleased with lawful sacrifice, holocausts offered on your altar. (Psalm 51:18-21)

Sacred Face of our Lord and our God, what words can we do to express our gratitude? How can we speak of our joy? That you have deigned to hear us, that you have chosen to answer us in our hour of need. We say this because we know that our prayers will be granted. We know that you, in your loving kindness, are listening to our pleading hearts, and will give, out of your fullness, the answer to our problems.

Mary, our Mother, thank you for your intercession on our behalf. St. Joseph, thank you for your prayers.

Through the merits of your precious blood and your Holy Face, O Jesus, grant us our petition, pardon and mercy.

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Most Holy Trinity, Godhead indivisible, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, our first beginning and our end. Since you have made us after your own image and likeness, grant that all the thoughts of our minds, all the words of our tongues, all the affections of our hearts, and all our actions may always be conformed to your Most Holy Will, so that after having seen you here on earth by the means of faith, we may come at last to contemplate you face to face in paradise. Amen.

Pray (1) Our Father, (3) Hail Mary’s, (1) Glory Be.

O Bleeding Face, O Face Divine, may all adoration be yours. (3x)

Novena in Honor of the Holy Name of Jesus

History of the Devotion

Devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus began in the Middle Ages. A special lover of the Holy Name was St. Bernard who speaks of it in most glowing terms in many of his sermons. But the greatest promoters of this devotion were St. Bernardine of Siena and St. John Capistrano.

They carried with them in their missions in the turbulent cities of Italy a copy of the monogram of the Holy Name, surrounded by rays, painted on a wooden tablet, wherewith they blessed the sick and wrought great miracles. At the close of their sermons they exhibited this emblem to the faithful and asked them to prostrate themselves to adore the Redeemer of mankind.

They recommend their hearers to have the monogram of Jesus place over the gates of their cities and above the doors of their dwelling. Because the manner in which St. Bernardine preached this devotion was new, he was accused by his enemies, and brought before the tribunal of Pope Martin V. But St. John Capistrano defended his master so successfully that the Pope not only permitted the worship of the Holy Name, but also assisted at a procession in which the holy monogram was carried.

The emblem or monogram representing the Holy Name of Jesus consists of the three letters: IHS. In the Middle Ages the Name of Jesus was written: IHESUS; the monogram contains the first and last letter of the Holy Name.

Urban IV and John XXII are said to have granted an indulgence of 30 days to those who would add the name of Jesus to the Hail Mary or would bend their knees, or at least bow their heads when hearing the Name of Jesus. The custom of adding the Name of Jesus to the Ave Maria was propagated in Italy, and from there to the Universal Church. Sixtus V (2 July 1587) granted an indulgence of 50 days to the ejaculation: “Praise be to Jesus Christ!” with the answer: “Forevermore,” or “Amen.”

Sixtus V and Benedict XIII granted an indulgence of 50 days to all as often as they pronounce the Name of Jesus reverently, and a plenary indulgence at the hour of death. These two indulgences were confirmed by Clement XIII, 5 September 1759. As often as we invoke the Name of Jesus and Mary (“Jesu!,” “Maria!”) we may gain a indulgence of 300 days, by decree of Pius X, 10 October 1904. It is also necessary to gain the papal indulgence at the hour of death, to pronounce at least in mind the Name of Jesus.

Scriptural Foundation

We give honor to the Name of Jesus, not because we believe that there is any power hidden in the letters composing it, but because the Name of Jesus reminds us of all the blessing we receive through our Holy Redeemer. To give thanks for these blessings we revere the Holy Name. The Name of Jesus invoked with confidence:

• brings help in bodily needs, according to the promise of Christ: “In my name they shall take up serpents; and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: they shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:17-18). In the Name of Jesus, the Apostles gave strength to the lame (Acts 3:6; 9:34) and life to the dead (Acts 9:40).

• gives consolation in spiritual trials. The Name of Jesus reminds the sinner of the prodigal son’s father and of the Good Samaritan; it recalls to the just the suffering and death of the innocent Lamb of God.

• Protects us against Satan and his wiles, for the devil fears the Name of Jesus, who has conquered him on the cross.

In the Name of Jesus we obtain every blessing and grace for time and eternity, for Christ has said: “If you ask the Father anything in my name he will give it to you” (John 16:23). Therefore the Church concludes all her prayers by the words: “Through Our Lord Jesus Christ,” etc.

So the word of St. Paul is fulfilled: “That in the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those that are in heave, on earth, and under the earth” (Philippians 2:10)

First Day – The Giving of the Glorious Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that the Holy Name of Jesus is not a name invented by man, but it comes from God, who wished it to be made known by the archangel Gabriel, as St. Luke testifies (Luke 2:21)

Jesus is a name that expresses perfectly the hypostatic union of the divine nature and of the human nature. The world could not have been saved by a pure God, because God is impassible, nor by a pure man, because man is limited and finite. This is the reason why the holy name Jesus, which signifies the same as Savior, as the angel declares (Matthew 1:21), has been given to the Son of God, mad man through Mary, in order to show that both as God and man he accomplished the redemption of mankind by delivering them from the slavery of sin at the same time. In short, Jesus is a name that comprises infinity, eternity, immensity, wisdom, justice, mercy, and all the adorable perfections of God. What happiness for us to be reconciled with the Eternal Father through the merits of this Divine Mediator who has had the goodness to pay our debt at the cost of his precious blood.

Adorable Jesus, if you have sacrificed yourself to deliver your people from the hands of their enemies in order to acquire an eternal name, it would be but fair that this name should surpass and eclipse every other name, even that of the seraphim, as the Letter to the Hebrews says: “as far superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs” (Hebrews 1:4)

And if the Eternal Father has wished that this name should be that of his Son, may you grant that, having experience on earth its happy effects, we may arrive at the complete happiness in heaven to praise you and to bless you for all eternity.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Second Day – The Sweetness of the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that there is no name in the world that is equal to the name of Jesus in sweetness. “Nothing is sweeter than chant,” says St. Bernard, “nothing more agreeable to hear, nothing more charming to think of, than the name of Jesus, the Son of God.”

To preach it is to give light to the understanding, is to inflame the will; to think of it is to feed the soul, is to excite its fervor; to call on it, is to win grace and unction. In fact, we see that if a Christian finds himself weighed down by sadness, whether through the artifice of our common enemy or in consequence of some misfortune that has befallen him, as soon as the Name of Jesus passes from his heart to his tongue, by the light of this divine name, darkness is dispersed, the mind becomes calm, the heart is strengthened, the faculties brighten up, and everything returns to life.

This is the reason why St. Paul, as soon as he received from the Divine Word himself the commission to publish his glorious name, began to repeat it so often, not only in his discourses, but also in the epistles that he addressed to the Corinthians, Galatians, Colossians, and to all other communities.

He knew by experience how sweet the Name of Jesus is, what its virtue is to dispel the darkness of error and bring back men to the happy paths of perfect belief. Oh, how happy shall we be if in all our trials, on all sorrowful occasions, we take care to invoke the glorious Name of Jesus, and while invoking it with our lips, to consecrate our hearts to it! Then our soul will taste an ineffable sweetness, which we can never find here below.

Most amiable Jesus, you are the master of angels, the Creator of the world, the sovereign of the universe. You are my Lord and my God (John 20:28). I thank you for having wished to take this Most Holy Name for our consolation, for our encouragement, and for our salvation; and as, in this valley of tears, we have recourse in our needs to your glorious Name by sweetly invoking it, grant that we may finish our lives in peace while saying, “Live Jesus! Live our Savior!”

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Third Day – Salvation from the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that the name of Jesus signifies nothing else than Savior; and St. Peter assures us that the Eternal Father has not given to men any other name by which they may be saved (Acts 4:12) amidst the snares of this deceitful world, than the adorable Name of Jesus.

It is this name that makes the truth of faith shine everywhere, and that calls all men from the depths of darkness to the light of the Gospel. It is by virtue of this adorable name that the Apostle gave light to the blind, made the lame walk, healed the sick, raised the dead to life, and filled the whole world with astonishment. And if the angel at first announced that Jesus would bring life into the world by delivering it from the cruel slavery into which Adam had plunged it, this good Savior confirmed this promise himself when he declared (John 10:10) that he had come sot hat his sheep might have life, and might have it more abundantly.

Ah since in this world there is no good that is not due to the efficiency of the Name of Jesus, let us acknowledge with humility and with love the source of all these riches; and if in the past we have been unfaithful, let us once and for all put an end to our ingratitude, and let us endeavor to repair all the wrong that we have done, and say: O amiable and Holy Name of Jesus! May the seraphim of heaven give to you for me suitable thanks, and never cease to praise you by forever repeating that you merit all glory, all honor, and all power.

My sweet Savior, I hope to obtain, by virtue of your Name, the salvation of my body and soul; I hope that with this glorious Name in my heart and on my lips, victorious over the world and the flesh, I shall have the happiness to sing your praises and to bless the august Trinity for ever and ever.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Fourth Day – Efficacy of the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, the efficacy of the adorable Name of Jesus for the purpose of offering prayers pleasing to God, and of obtaining all that we ask of him. This name opens for us the way to arrive promptly at the feet of the Most High, and to have our prayers heard at once. The Gospel also attests that the prayers of Jesus himself have always been heard by virtue of his great name, and that he authorizes us to say, when speaking to God, “Our Father, who art in heaven.”

In consideration of Name of Jesus, God looks with a favourable eye upon our petition; he accepts it kindly and grants it, because he sees that it bears his seal and is marked with the precious blood of the Lamb that was immolated for us. For this reason Jesus exhorted the Apostles, and exhorts all, that we should ask in his name all that we ask of his Father, in order to be sure that we shall obtain it: “If you ask the Father anything in my name, he will give it to you.” (John 16:23)

It is enough for him to hear the petition, and he will bestow upon us the favors that have been asked of him in the name of his Beloved Son, with whom he is well pleased, and who, in order to satisfy his offended justice, has shown himself obedient even unto death.

We should, then, know how to profit by the efficacious power of the holy Name of Jesus; being sure that our prayers will be heard, we should, often, every hour of the day, repeat our prayers to the Eternal Father, and we shall advance in perfection on the road of the divine precepts, until we attain the happiness of seeing and possessing him for all eternity in heaven.

O sweet Jesus, our love and our hope! Since you have deigned to assume mortal flesh, in order to open to us the gate of pardon, and to render our prayers efficacious by virtue of your glorious Name, grant that, in order to obtain from the heavenly Father graces and gifts, our prayers for perseverance may be heard, so that, faithful to the divine law to the end of our lives, we may, with your Holy Name on our lips, pass from this valley of tears to the glory of paradise.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Fifth Day – Consolation afforded by the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that those who love Jesus are, by his sweet name, so much sustained and consoled in their afflictions and in all other evils that it is for them a happiness to suffer inorder to be able to participate in these ineffable consolations.

This, says St. Bernard, is the reason why the Spouse of the Canticles compares the name of Jesus to oil, “Your name is as oil poured out” (Sg 1:2), for as oil gives light, food, and a remedy, so is the name of Jesus a light, food, and a remedy. All spiritual food without the Name of Jesus is insipid and dry. No writing, however charming and interesting it may be, can be sweet nourishment to the heart if it does not contain the Name of Jesus.

If in the sermons, discussions, and conversations, the Name of Jesus is not mentioned, the soul tastes no sweetness. The Name of Jesus is honey to the mouth, melody to the ear, joy to the heart. This name rendered sweet the pains and torments of the martyrs, of the virgins, and of all the saints, so that when reduced to the last extremity, while invoking the Name of Jesus, they were comforted; they forgot their sufferings.

Why should we, then, be cast down in our tribulations, in the storms that arise against us to throw us, perhaps, into the abyss of despair, when the Name of Jesus alone can lighten the weight that oppresses us, and can carry us to heaven? Have, therefore, recourse to Jesus, faithful soul, attach yourself to Jesus, he is a secure haven in which we need not fear to suffer shipwreck; he is the morning star that guides us through the darkness to the way of salvation; he is the watchful sentinel that discovers the enemy and puts him to flight; in a word, he renders easy and sweet to you the yoke of the evangelical law.

O amiable Name of Jesus! Your devoted servants invoke you, since you are so prompt in coming to console them in their necessities. For pity’s sake, my good Master, come also to give consolation to my soul, which, though sorely pressed down on account of its combat with redoubtable enemies, and which, because of bad conduct, is perhaps far away from you, yet like the prodigal son hopes to find in you the clemency of a Father, and dares to say to you, with St. Anselm, O my Savior! Save me; save me, Jesus, and do not permit me to perish.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Sixth Day – Peace that is given us by the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that Jesus being the King of peace, whose presence was sought throughout the earth, cannot but bring consolation to us. So, before his birth, in order to give a token that his coming was peaceful, his Divine Providence wished that the whole world, under the reign of Caesar Augustus, should be in perfect peace.

And when he was born, the voice of the angels chanted the heavenly song that was heard by the shepherds of Bethlehem: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good will.”

Origen remarks that the coming of Jesus, our Savior, brought peace to the whole world. In fact, he reconciled us with the Eternal Father, from whom original sin had separated us; he also quieted in us the inferior powers which in consequence of the same sin had revolted against the spirit; so that, says St. Bernard, by virtue of the Name of Jesus, the transports of passion are appeased, the movements of concupiscence are repressed, and the soul finds itself brought back to the state it would have enjoyed had it persevered in original justice.

This being the case, let us imitate St. Teresa, who, when asked by Jesus himself about her name, answered, without knowing him, “My name is Teresa of Jesus.” Let us also say that we belong to Jesus; in this way we shall enjoy a continual peace on earth, and while becoming peaceful, which quality makes us the chosen of God, we shall perpetuate it forever in heaven.

O amiable Jesus, you are truly the King of peace and of tranquility; this we experience when we invoke you in our trials. In the midst of the sad vicissitudes that afflict and harass us in this valley of tears, it is only in your very Holy Name that we find calm, peace and rest.

Grant that we may hereafter be more fervent in the practice of good works, and that by faithfully following in the footsteps of the Good Shepherd, like humble and docile sheep, we may be delivered from temptations of the flesh, and seek shelter and protection in the fold of your very sweet heart.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Seventh Day – Strength of the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that Jesus, impelled by the ardour of his love toward mankind, without leaving the bosom of the Father, clothed himself in our flesh.

He came into the world to deliver us from its chains; that like an irresistible warrior he attacked man’s enemy, Satan, who had become the sole master of this world that groaned under his tyranny because of the transgression of the law of God; that, finally, he conquered it, crushed it, and snatched from its grasp, as he himself has said (Luke 11:22), the arms in which it had trusted, and divided the spoils of the conquered among his children, to whom he gave as their armor the sacraments and the sign of the cross.

This victory made him so formidable to the demons of hell that his name alone causes all the powers of the abyss to tremble, and fills them with terror, as the Apostle says, “In the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth” (Philippians 2:10). When hearing this adorable name the angels of light prostrate themselves out of respect, to render homage and to testify their gratitude to their Redeemer; but the angels of darkness humble themselves by force, being compelled by virtue of the Most High to acknowledge their conqueror, notwithstanding the shame, the spite, and the rage that torment them.

And as for ourselves, whom Jesus has principally redeemed, let us imitate the good angels in rendering on our knees due thanksgiving for the good he has done for us, and by remembering not only the profound veneration with which his glorious Name should fill our hearts, but the firm hope he gives us to acquire by his merits a blessed life in eternity.

O Jesus! You who did allow to shine forth the strength of your Name, to deliver us from the servitude of sin and the slavery of the devil. Show that you are a perfect conqueror by preserving your conquest with vigilant care. Grant that our souls may always be worthy of belonging entirely to you. We can do nothing of ourselves without the help of your grace; be you so good as to aid us, to protect us, and, prostrate at the feet of your throne, we shall gratefully sing forever of the strength of your glorious Name.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Eight Day – Power of the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that the glorious Name of Jesus is wonderful in what regards the divine mysteries of his incarnation, life, passion, death, resurrection, and ascension.

All of which comprise things so profound and so sublime that the angels themselves cannot comprehend then, and the the Apostle has said that they are a scandal in the eyes of the Jews and folly in the eyes of the Gentiles (1 Corinthians 1:23), while we see in them a celestial light that shows us the wisdom and the love of God. Yet consider, also, that it is wonderful in regard to its power. Jesus is the Word of the Eternal Father, and as nothing has been done without him, says St. John (John 1:3), so nothing is preserved, nothing is governed independently of his power.

It is by virtue of his Name that the barbarians renounced idolatry to embrace the Gospel, the Apostles producing these marvelous conversions by the prodigies and miracles that astonished nature. It is by virtue of his Name that the sun is resplendent, that the moon reflects its light, that the stars shine, that the planets follow their course, that the humble are exalted, that the proud are humbled, mountains are leveled, that valleys are filled up; for the Eternal Father has placed all things in the hands of his Son (John 13:3). And who of us will not prostrate himself to adore this Name that is so great, so majestic, that fills heaven and earth! Who of us will not render to him the homage that is due to him, when we know that it is owing to Jesus that we are Christians, and that in imitating him, we can aspire to the glory of paradise.

O Jesus, all-powerful and truly wonderful! If the eyes of our soul had not been opened and enlightened by the light of faith, which you have taught us by your own mouth, how should we ever have been able to know your divine mysteries! Without this aid, we should have always been buried in the darkness of ignorance and in the shadows of death. May thanks be always given to our sweet Jesus, who has had compassion on us, and in opening to us the gates of heaven, has constituted us heirs of the eternal kingdom! And if our heart is entirely filled with joy for having received so great gifts, may our tongue never cease to praise him who is the author of them.

Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Leader: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
All: Now and forever!

Let us pray.

God, who did appoint
Your only begotten Son
Savior of mankind,
And did command that
He should be called Jesus,
Mercifully grant that we may enjoy
The vision of him in heaven,
Whose Holy Name
We venerate on earth.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Ninth Day – Triumphs in the Name of Jesus

Consider, devout soul, that the Name of Jesus did not triumph only over death and sin by despoiling hell of its power, but it also expelled from the height of the cross the devil, who had usurped dominion over this world by drawing all things to himself.

If, therefore, the glorious Name of Jesus has done so much good for us, let us, consecrate ourselves to him, our heart, our faculties, our words, so that everything in them may breathe the sweetness of Jesus; and also our actions, that one may see shine in them the virtues that Jesus practiced on earth – his humility, his patience, his charity, his zeal, his love. By this means we shall, after this life, be able to take part in the triumphs of Jesus in heaven.

O very amiable and very sweet Jesus, our God, our Savior, our Father! How can we, miserable creatures that we are, respond to the love that you have shown and that you do not cease to show to us! It is certain that you alone as God can justly compensate yourself, since before you wer are as if we were not. And then, what have we that is not a gift of your bounty? Yes, O supreme good! All that we have comes from you; and as such we render it to you, in offering you, in this novena that we celebrate in honor of your Name; all that we are.

But, knowing that our love is agreeable to you, we give you specially our whole heart which is the source of this love. Deign to receive it as belonging to you; and if its is not worthy of you, purify it of its imperfections and of its defects, sot that we may see shine in it the Name of Jesus, that it loves only Jesus; that it thinks only of Jesus; and that the superabundance of its affections communicating itself to our tongue, Jesus may be praised and blessed through all ages. Amen.
